amy loves to gossip. she loves gossiping with her friends. knuckles wont readily admit it but he loves it too when they meet up for non emergency reasons, but he feels awkward bc he doesnt really have much to contribute - angel island doesnt generate much drama. so instead he talks about the chao, and THEIR drama. little rocket the hero chao smacked lucy in the face when they got too close to them, and now the entire garden has started excluding rocket from their cuddle piles!! can you believe?? knuckles keeps trying to fix it but little rocket is still sulking and refuses to play nice....
amy is eating it all up she is so invested in the chao drama

amy puts in a conscious effort to connect to those around her. she knows all of her neighbours by name and regularly has tea with some of them. she knows all the staff at the bakery she goes to and always ask how their life is going. she volunteers a lot, meal on wheels and the like
sometimes knuckles visits amy and stays with her for a day or two. its so foreign to him, see her seemingly effortlessly Connect with everyone and Belong. it hurts his chest. amy assures him that its something that takes work and effort, that its not too late. he can still learn
amy and knuckles have a stall together at a farmer's market. send post
I was thinking about this last night. something something knuckles latching on to any feeling of Connection to his friends
not only is he autistic and struggles with the feeling of being Separate from everyone else, but he also grew up entirely alone and isolated. that shit fucks you and how you veiw/form relationships UP. he is very introverted and values his alone time greatly, but he’s lonely a lot
he sees sonic and amy and tails being Friends, just the little things, and it makes him so agitated and upset even if he doesn't realise it consciously. even the little things like sonic wearing the shoes amy got him for his birthday, tails falling asleep on sonic's shoulder, the miniature but fully functional piko piko hammer key chain on amy's phone that tails made. it's all evidence that they're close to one another in a way that knuckles isn't, that he isn't sure he'll ever be able to be
but then one day amy makes him a friendship bracelet and he makes the most ugliest face in response and she's like "oh if you don't like it you don't have to-" but he's already tied it around his wrist and tucked it under the cuff of his glove. tails comes up and insists on making him a reliable, working communicator and for a start he's wary, but a few days later tails sends him a message of a cool looking rock that's apparently a thousand year old meteor, isn't that cool? I heard you like rocks so I thought you'd find this interesting. whenever sonic finds his way up to angel island he starts bringing different food, mostly foreign herbs and spices, or fruits or nuts or whatever, small things that knuckles can add to his meals if he wants or can nibble on if he's hungry
they all do this very offhandedly, like it doesn't mean the fucking world, and after they finally get off his island and leave him in peace he sits by the master emerald and is confused as to why his chest feels so light but he feels like crying
amy is very physically affectionate she loves to hug and hold her friends and knuckles. has not had that. ever. the first movie night turned sleepover he joins at her house ends with him in her arms (they were watching a scary movie and she is easily spooked and also is very strong) and he realised that oh. oh. this is. um. this is a lot and its nice but he is feeling a Lot and feels like hes on some sort of verge
