uu soulmates au... what if the mafia was specifically designed to keep soulmates apart? they're always in invis, so no way of seeing what their soulmate wrote, and no markers or pens anywhere to be found near mafia city (besides from Ash's level) so people can't try to write something to their soulmate either (not like they'd see)
what if squidswag didn't realise who their soulmate was despite a long time of communicating, and suddenly from Ash's perspective the messages stop (right as Squiddo gets forced to join the mafia) and he eventually realises his soulmate got stuck in the exact systemn HE SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO KEEP SOULMATES APART

anyway YES the implications of the invis mafia in this au are crazy. like they eliminate every possible form of communication between anybody except signs and unsigned books, which totally eliminate any individuality... (though i guess they do have access to pens for that, but that's almost worse. having the ability to write but being invis so you can't read anything. hehe) and then by the nature of the mafia it just gets rid of soulmate communication too. ahhhh
