Annabelle Fact vs Fiction: While some believe in the supernatural or the explanations given by paranormal investigators such as the Warrens; the reality behind the story of the "Annabelle" doll is far simpler.

Fiction:

In the first installment of The Conjuring the Annabelle doll is shown as a grotesque toy who was found by two nursing students who formed an attachment with her, and let her stay with them. The Warrens reveal to them that the doll was not a girl who died and whose soul now inhabits her doll, but a demon who was looking for their permission to stay so she could possess one of them. Terrified, the girls immediately agree to hand over the doll to the Warrens who perform an exorcism and keep it in a little museum they have built in one of the rooms of their house, downstairs. As the movie progresses, one of the entities they are fighting (a witch) somehow finds a way to influence the demon possessed doll (in whose body the demon still remains) to go after their daughter. Luckily the Warrens come in and put the doll back in her cage.

Fact:

Nobody knows for sure what was going with the nursing students. If they were caving in under pressure and thought they were seeing things that were not there, or were using illegal substances that made them believe that the doll was possessed, and therefore needed the assistance of professionals like the Warrens.

What is known is that she received the doll around 1970 and unlike the Annabelle doll in the movie, the original was a Raggedy Ann doll that looked just like any Raggedy Ann. The student started noticing that strange things started happening and she blamed the doll for it. She got more scared when one psychic medium who visited her told her that the doll was inhabited by the spirit of a dead girl named "Annabelle Higgins." The student told her roommate and both felt sympathetic towards the spirit's plight and welcomed her to stay with them.

But that only made things worse and long story, short, they called the Warrens who told them the truth - which was that the doll was not inhabited by a human spirit, but by a demon who wanted to possess one of them. They took it away and placed it in their museum where the only surviving Warren, claims is still safely kept there.

Many skeptics, such as religious study professor at Texas State University, Josephn Laycock, have dismissed these claims, adding that the Warrens' Museum of supernatural objects amounts to nothing more than "Halloween junk, dolls and toys, books you could buy at any bookstore”.

Supernatural entity or Hoax, you get to be the one who decides what to believe.
