Remembering the loved ones we lost and remembering a time when the South African government wanted to be sure of the safety and efficacy of ARVs before embarking on a roll-out. Remembering a time when a health minister was pushing nutrition and non-pharmaceutical alternatives. Remembering a time when some human rights mattered more than the health of the nation. We are celebrating the advocacy efforts of civil society organizations, such as the TAC. The brave and bold steps of NGOs and people like Sr Alison Munro to start rolling out ART Clinics even in the most remote villages of this land when our government was still weighing its options. Celebrating the success of PMTCT, it is often downplayed. May we always remember that the only way to stop the spread of HIV is to be responsible. Getting tested, taking ARVs, seeking prophylaxis if you are possibly exposed, adhering to treatment even if going to the clinic is not a good experience. Being responsible also entails Ending GBV, in particular sexual assault. Treating an unknown HIV status as HIV+, applying universal precautions always. Let's keep the goal in mind, to end AIDS by 2030. It is doable. #AnAIDSFreeGeneration #EndAIDS #StopGBV #StopTheSpreadOfHIV https://www.instagram.com/p/CW7RL5UqQMj/?utm_medium=tumblr
