Um, for the fic title thing... what would you write for something titled 'Aliens like coin tosses apparently'
Virgil and Logan were friends for a long time, but there was always something strange about Logan. Like he wouldn’t pick up on social cues, he’d wink to himself on occassion and mutter something that sounded foreign, or rub his eyes a lot and complain about them being too small. Then again, there were many things strange about Virgil, so he never really questioned his friend.
Until one day Logan and Virgil are having a sleepover hangout and the electricity goes off. Virgil goes outside to check the grid but is abducted by a UFO in the sky. Logan comes out and yells something foreign-sounding at the UFO and it beams him up.
Virgil watches in anxious captivity as Logan talks to a large green alien in the same tongue, and the alien looks frustrated and unwilling before flipping a coin he made out of thin air. Logan watched and smiles when it landed on heads.
Logan goes to help Virgil out, promising he’d explain everything later, and Virgil just smiles nervously and jokes, “Aliens like to coin toss?”
Logan responds, “Yeah. We really do.”

Purrfect Pets
“Hi there, welcome to Purrfect Pets animal shelter! Can I help you with anything?” Patton’s voice rang out through the store.
Logan didn’t know why he’d agreed to run the shelter with his twin. Maybe it was the fact that he’d never been able to say no to Patton. Maybe it was the fact that he couldn’t stand to think about how poorly some of these animals would be treated elsewhere. Maybe it was the fact that he wanted to do something.
Either way, with the money their grandfather, Thomas, had left them when he’d passed, they’d bought a space, made sure it was fixed up, and started their rescue.
Logan had left Patton to the name. According to his research, cutesy or fun names would likely bring in more customers.
He didn’t exactly do cutesy.
All of these thoughts blurred through his head as he went about his daily routine, making sure all of the animals had enough water, putting food in their automatic feeders (something he’d insisted on), and cleaning out the litter boxes.
As he’d been cleaning out the last litter box, he spotted a man through bars. He was sitting on the floor in front of a litter of kittens. Not rattling the bars, not disturbing them in any way.
Just…watching.
Logan cleaned up and headed into the main store, taking care to approach the man from the side so as not to spook him.
“If you’d like, I can assist you in picking out a kitten.”
Despite Logan’s best efforts, the man still jumped at his voice. He turned, his hood falling away, revealing a familiar face. This man had come in many times before, and he’d certainly caught Logan’s eye. Patton had teased him when he’d caught Logan hiding in the back room, so as not to say something ridiculous in front of the man.
“I’ve seen you before…you’ve been here before, correct?”
“You-you remember me?” The man’s cheeks were a slight pink as he fiddled with his too long sleeves. Logan gave him a sharp nod. “Yeah, I like to watch the kittens. They’re so carefree, and without this place they would’ve been born on the streets. So…thanks. For all the work you and your brother do.”
“I can honestly say that it is our genuine pleasure.” Logan gave the man a rare smile. “May I get your name?”
“Virgil. Virgil Moore.” Virgil looked at Logan through his bangs, his blush deepening.
“It’s nice to meet you.” Logan didn’t miss the way Virgil’s eyes darted back to the kittens. “Would you like to hold one?”
Virgil quickly took a step back, shaking his head. “No, I couldn’t. What-what if I hurt one? They’re so small and fragile…”
“While they look that way, the kittens aren’t as fragile as you might think. They’re actually ten weeks old. Old enough for us to sell, if you’d like one. I can walk you through the proper procedures in about thirty minutes, but that’s your call.” Logan explained as he pulled out his keys.
Virgil bit his lip as he shifted his gaze back to Logan. His deep brown eyes seemed to melt the glass out of Logan’s glasses. “What if I decide I don’t want a kitten? What happens to them?”
“Then they wait here, where they are cared for in the highest degree, until their forever family comes for them.” The kittens mewed as they finally spotted Logan, hoping for treats.
Virgil practically melted at the sound of the kittens. He knelt down, careful not to touch the bars, peering into their room. “May I hold the black and white one? In the back corner?”
“Of course,” Logan said. Of course Virgil would choose the alienated kitten. Based on his appearance, he probably felt alienated himself. “Please excuse me for a moment.”
He headed into the back, fetching the kitten Virgil had asked for, and brought him out. He could see the figurative heart eyes form in Virgil’s gaze and knew that the kitten was meant for him.
“Follow me, we have a quieter place for the kittens. That way you won’t be disturbed.” Kitten in his arms, Logan trekked through the store to a corner. There were plenty of cat toys scattered on the ground, as well as walls high enough that the kittens couldn’t escape and wreak havoc.
Thank goodness Havoc had been adopted shortly after.
Kneeling, Logan gently put the kitten on the floor. He turned, finding Virgil looking ready to bolt. “It’s alright. If you’d rather I stayed-”
“Stay.” The word flew out of Virgil’s mouth, causing the man to clap a hand over his lips.
His adorably kissable lips.
“I mean, if you don’t have anything-if you’re not-could you please stay?”
“Of course.”
So Logan stayed, feeling heart eyes of his own as he watched Virgil bond with the kitten. By the end of their allotted ten minutes, the kitten was asleep in Virgil’s arms.
“Do you feel as though you’ve found a match?” Logan asked as he stood, reaching out to help Virgil up.
Redness bloomed in Virgil’s cheeks as he gave Logan a shy smile. “In more ways than one.”
