This year i got the opportunity to bring to life one jacket that i felt in love at first sight and only can dreamed of. On December 5, 2018 Oprah Winfrey was the cover story for Elle India magazine and i felt in love with one of the jackets she wore. After researching i found out that it was designed by Anamika Khanna and put it on my vision board as a one day custom jacket design to have in life.

As the story turns, one of my best friends @saritaheda decides to get married in India for March of 2019 and while preparing for the outfits for the wedding in Mumbai, my lovely Indian princess (sister of the soon to be bride) @sonalheda whispers to me “lets make your jacket!” I was in shock and amazed about the possibly of bringing this to life. One month later and after many hardships, with Sonal’s and her mother’s help we were able to design and custom-make the blazer jacket that i ended wearing for the wedding night reception.

What Anamika Khanna's "Moonlight in Motion" Tells Us About Where Indian Couture Is Headed

Hyundai India Couture Week 2026 just gave us a preview of where Indian fashion is headed and it's not what you'd expect.

Anamika Khanna's showcase, Moonlight in Motion, traded the usual gold-heavy palette for silvered, nocturnal, metallic tones. Paired with her signature draped, deconstructed silhouettes capes, dhoti pants, pre-stitched sarees that move like they're alive.

We're not couture (different world, different budget) but runways like this tell us what people will start asking for at weddings and sangeets in the next few months. And this year the message is clear: movement and artistry are back, and mass-produced prints just don't cut it anymore.

Why this matters for hand-painted fashion: A hand-painted drape does something a printed one can't. Every brushstroke is placed by hand no flat, repeating, machine-stamped pattern. It shifts across the fabric the same way a couture drape shifts across a body. That's the whole point of wearable art.

The palette to watch: Silver, pewter, soft metallic-grey stepping in alongside the usual red and gold. Think sarees, lehenga dupattas, even kurta detailing.

How to borrow the trend without a couture budget:

Hand-painted sarees or dupattas in silver/grey instead of gold

Drape-forward silhouettes over stiff, structured pieces

Hand-painted detailing on borders and pallus for that one-of-a-kind shimmer

Twin the trend as a family a mother-daughter or couple's set in matching moonlit tones

Big couture houses and small artisan brands actually agree on one thing: mass production kills what makes an outfit feel special. Real craftsmanship doesn't go out of style it just gets reinterpreted, season after season.
