🍬 Family headcanon
Though she doesn’t talk about it, part of Maya is very curious as to who her parents were. She was given up as a newborn, so she has no memories or recollections as to what they were like. Hell, she doesn’t even know what her birth name was, since ‘Maya’ was given to her by the Order.
She often questions if she was really willingly given up, or if that was something she was led to believe. The Order obviously wanted a Siren, and they had the means to take her by force... If it wasn’t voluntary, are her parents still alive? Do they miss her? Would they ever want to see her again? And if it was voluntary, do they regret it? There’s so many questions she has, and no way for her to get the answers she needs without going back...
Either way, discussions of biological family always makes her feel a little uneasy. She’ll usually dismiss herself if it gets to be too much. Don’t want to hamper the fun and all that.
🌼 Happiness headcanon
At first, Maya wasn’t sure exactly how to... express happiness. She felt it, but there wasn’t much outward indication other than a really stiff half smile. There was a lot of social cues that she had to learn while on Pandora, and comparing her current self to the person she was when she first got out of the abbey is absolute night and day.
Turns out, Maya actually had one hell of an infectious smile buried under all that negative conditioning. When she gets especially giggly, it’s the kind that just slowly spreads across everyone’s faces until they’re laughing with her too. It’s a nice feeling, and it’s during little moments like that where she feels most comfortable.
💼 Work headcanon
One of Maya’s worst habits is her tendency to be a workaholic. If a task is put in front of her, she will hyperfocus and not back off of it until it’s finished, which has honestly been a detriment in the past.
She once set out to translate a piece of text on Sirenism into English, and with that meaning so much to her, she ended up not eating for three days straight with how hard she was tunnel visioning. Thankfully Salvador noticed and got her off her ass, but it was still pretty concerning.
This is still an issue she has, and she’s trying to work on it, but old habits die hard as they say.
