He hissed and jerked back when he dabbed at his wounds, eyes narrowing. "Be more careful. And I knew I was going to get out of there alive."
Amelia wasn't one to idly write to strangers across the world, she was more focused on teaching children and nurturing their minds rather than sending postcards or letters to people that could potentially get their hands on information, even if the program was proven to be safe.
"Oh, c'mon Amelia! You're at the peak of your youth, fun, spunky, quite attractive."
"Yes, I'm aware, but I'm also a kindergarten teacher who doesn't want to be liable for the kid's addresses getting stolen. I'd have to deal with angry parents!"
"Look, 'm not saying they have to do it, the parent's agreement letters were already sent out last week and majority of your class has permission and wants to do it. Besides, it's one hundred percent proven safe for them to send because it's under a private network. And how cool would it be to write to kids over in the UK anyway?"
"Well, they are excited about it... Ngh... fine, fine. I'm just a worry wart when it comes to the kids ya know?"
"Which is why you'll be doing it too with them!"
"Come again?"
"You heard me. It'll be fun, besides, you might even find your dream guy."
"Clarice, I'd probably be writing to another student over there, or maybe another teacher. I'm not going to associate myself with a complete and utter stranger!"
"Well, you could use skype if you want to know them better, long distance call even."
"Then there wouldn't be a point in doing this." Amelia rolled her eyes, taking a sip of her coffee before shooing her friend away. "Go to class, lunch break is about to end."
"Alright, alright, but don't knock it until you try it! So write a letter and see what happens! No commitment, no attachments. Just have some fun."
"Yeah, yeah now go to your own class already!"
"Alright, alright! Oh, by the way, that guy Brad--"
"And stop setting me up with people, I told you I'm not dating right now."
"Fine, fine, Miss Independent. Have fun with those letters."
"Have fun teaching music."
With that, Clarice was gone and the children began to pour in with a recces hype after having energized during lunch. Amelia took the time to calm them down and instruct them on what they were doing, handing them all an envelope and some paper for them to draw, as well as, write letters of greeting to other kids. The whole class seemed to squeal with joy and that simply brightened up her day. As soon as school ended and the last of her kids were picked up, she sat at her desk as the sun slowly set, looking through the letters to make sure everything was in order.
Sighing once finished, she leaned back and glanced off to the side where a pen and paper tempted for her to write. The American sat there, beginning to tap her nails on her desk in a rhythm, humming in thought. Should she do it? Should she not? Ah, but when upon realizing she was holding her breath, exhaling seemed to have broken the silence.
"Might as well..." Taking up the pen in hand she began to write:
Dear whoever seems to read this,
Hello from the USA! I'm not sure who I'm writing to, but I guess I can write the basics down. My name is Amelia Jones, I'm 20 years old and a kindergarten teacher here at Roosevelt Elementary. I have short blonde hair that's a bit curly, but mostly wavy at times, blue eyes and lightly tanned skin. I'm 5'7 in height and love watching American History shows. My favorite color is blue and I love jazz music. I also love to read books and fly in my father's old crop plane my big brother flies me in whenever I go to visit my family's farm back in Alabama, but I live in California now so I'm a long ways from home because I like the beaches here. I think that covers the main parts, so I suppose I can keep writing, though I'm running out of things to really say. Oh! I know it's a lot different there in England, or the UK, where ever this letter travels to, from America. From the show's I've seen, London is always cloudy, but it looks like a really nice place. Also a great tourist attraction, I'd love to visit one day, but I never had a good enough reason to. Here in America, the weather can be really indecisive, and one minute it's sunny, the next, cloudy. I think I love the sunny weather a lot more, although rainy weather is really good too. Anyway, I don't want to bore you my randomness, it's very nice to meet you and I hope you write back.
- Amelia
Clicking her pen and setting it down, she looked over her letter before folding it up and sticking it into the envelope. She wrote her return address on the letter and placed it within the rest of the pile. She could understand why the children were so giddy about this, she felt just as enthusiastic.
Ah, the blond could just imagine it. In the next few days, her students would receive letters in the mail, bringing them to class for show-and-tell. She didn't want to admit that she was looking forward to it; but she definitely was looking forward to it.
Grabbing the pile before she left for home, she managed to place them in her teacher's inbox for the school to send.
The next day they'd be gone, and now all they had to do was wait for a response.
