The Traditional- "How To Live Without Blood"- ALBUM REVIEW

Artist: The Traditional Album: How To Live Without Blood (released January 13th via Anchor 84 Records) For Fans Of: Manchester Orchestra, Balance and Composure, Seahaven

  On a completely aural note, The Traditional's new full length, How To Live Without Blood is mindblowing. The band has grown considerably since 2012's You Can't Rebuild Forever, and not just because vocalist and lyricist Anthony Musior lost his father. The loss colors the record in the darkest shades imaginable, leaving the listener gasping and grasping for the phone to dial the number for their own father, perhaps. 

Vocally, Musior is a delightful cross between Manchester Orchestra's Andy Hull and Seahaven's Kyle Soto, and musically the band fall somewhere between The Wonder Years and Pianos Become The Teeth, mixing together genres and sounding like a slightly softer version of Bayside.

If this is your first time listening to The Traditional, as it was mine, be prepared to be knocked back in your seat like the guy in those old Memorex ads. It's aggression turned up to the highest level; the anger that permeates the entire record is only occasionally softened by songs of regret and loss ("My Brother Is the Sea"). Though the overall tone is one of anger, the music itself doesn't really reflect that (check "Marilyn", a fun romp through a terrible breakup). For a split second, the opening of "Do You Miss Me Yet?" will remind you of "The Best Of Me" by The Starting Line, vocals and all.

"Run" slows things down considerably with a slow burning beauty, even though it feels as though the band is holding the leash tightly on the metaphorical dogs of their ferocity... until the halfway mark, when they let everything loose. The album's closer, "I'm Not Going Home With You", is an acoustic ballad about, of all things, not going home- with anyone or at all. There's a beautiful female accompaniment that perfectly complements Musior's gruff drawl.

Check out this album if you have anger issues you need resolved through music, have lost a loved one, are going through a breakup, or just simply existing. This is an album- and a band- that will appeal to everyone.

Many things go on within the walls of the famed WHAF House (aka What Hands Are For’s house in Echo Park). From impromptu dance parties, screaming contests, band practice, beer drinking, random house guests, beer, blunts, babes, and more…anything and everything has and will happen!

Thanks to Daniel and his always on  and always recording Mac computer, he has managed to capture hours upon hours of entertaining footage from everyone that has entered through the front door and up to the living room.
