Exclusive Interview: Grayscale Discusses Upcoming Album
Exclusive Interview: Grayscale Discusses Upcoming Album
With varying influences across the rock landscape, Grayscale’s upcoming album What We’re Missing accomplishes something few bands are able to: showcase deeply personal songs while at the same time remaining catchy. Less than a year removed from their Change EP, What We’re Missing is the band’s first full-length on Anchor Eighty Four records. The band took some time to answer a few questions about…

NEW CITY KINGS
Sounds like: Bastille, Wildlife, The Ratells
Can I just say that this band is AMAZING? Okay, now that I got that out of the way, New City Kings is from Essex and they’re pretty new (pun intended), forming in 2013. I came across this band after I went through the Canadian IndieWeek bands (yes, it’s this week) and they happen to be playing tomorrow night at The Hideout at 11pm, among a few other venues so make sure you find some tickets to see these guys live! They’ve got four songs released off their Change EP + a single (Swords & Cannonballs) and have four respective music videos. As a part-time YouTuber, I can tell you how incredibly hard it is to create one music video, let alone four! The title song (Change) has a riff, “another puppet on the firing line”, that reminds me of Wildcub’s song Colour. Make sure to check their VEVO to see (and listen) to all their hard work!
Sidenote: They’re shooting something in Niagara Falls today. New Music video? It’s also impossible to find a colour picture of these guys.

NEW CITY KINGS announce Change EP out 24th March
There was a sold-out show at London's Borderline late last year, promoting their excellent debut single Swords & Cannonballs, which was picked for a national online video campaign by the mighty Vevo.
Prior to that, Bestival curators Josie & Rob DaBank chose the band for their Replay Stage (alongside Nina Nesbitt, Sam Smith, The 1975 and London Grammar, no less). Pete Mitchell at Absolute Radio is just one of a number of early supporters of the lads.
Promoters of Ontario's Indie Week Festival spotted them performing in Dublin and immediately booked them to play in Canada, leading to other shows at SXSW and Brownstock too.
There's also the small matter of a gig at London's mighty Koko tomorrow (7 March), supporting Room 94.
Change, the title track to their first-ever EP is cool and confident with an instant hook, like Foo Fighters at the top of their game.
Says lead-singer Mark Konstantinovic:
“Change is a track about people trying to get on with their lives and build things, only to be compromised and forced into living lives that don't bring them satisfaction. About how everyone finds it difficult to make positive changes.”
