What is the average grade in ancient civilizations? Ancient Civilizations is not in the grade distributions for TJ.
Response from Snape:
I took Ancient Civilizations the summer before my freshman year in 2018. Since we don't have grade distributions for Ancient Civ, I'll have to rely on personal experience. Anecdotally speaking, almost everyone got an A if not an A-. The class is very easy and you can get such a result with little effort. Don't stress and enjoy it, make sure to talk to people on your bus, during class, and during lunch! It's an amazing chance to make friends with people before the school year or sports begin. Of course, in the immediate case, things are online, so talking might be more difficult but still try to reach out and get people's contact info so you can make some friends to enter freshman year with besides those from your middle school!
Should I take ancient civ or CS in 9th grade?
Response from Rita:
I would recommend taking CS freshman year. If you enjoy it, you can then take APCS sophomore year -- which opens you up to take other post-AP CS electives later at TJ, or even set you down paths to research labs such as the Neuro lab and Syslab. Most students take Foundations their freshman year. Additionally, in later years, you will have the option to take other history electives to fulfill your history requirement such as Anthropology, History of Science, Philosophy, etc, so you don’t have to take Ancient Civ now.
How was your experience with Ms.Yi for Ancient Civilizations?
Response from Aurora:
We’ve answered a similar question twice before:

https://realtalk-tj.tumblr.com/post/160536077576/will-ms-yi-be-teaching-ancient-civilizations-this
I also had a friend who had Ms. Yi for ancient civ during freshman year, and he did say that she sometimes gave too much work.
What is the text book for Ancient Civilization which I enrolled to take during this summer? Thanks
Response from Flitwick:
I’m pretty sure it’s Stearns’ World Civilizations. There’s no need to pre-study for the course to get ahead though, and this might not be the correct textbook and your teacher might give you another one. (However, as far as I know it’s the one that’s used during the year.)
Raising freshman. Planning on taking Ancient civilization class during summer school. Any thought? Is it appropriate to take this early or should I plan during next summer? Thanks
Response from Bellatrix:
None of my friends who have taken Ancient Civ have complained about it and now they don’t have to worry about taking a history course. It is very appropriate and even kinda common to take it before TJ madness starts. Good luck!
Ancient Civ online vs over the year? Also, which is a relatively easy history course to take for the 4th history cred? Is it better to take it over the summer or over the year?
Response from Molly:
Ancient civ is not offered online, so were you thinking school year vs summer? If there are a bunch of courses that you want to take over the school year, it’s probably best to get your 4th history credit over with during the summer. Some popular history courses that I’ve heard include Law & Soc, Anthro, and America & the World.
Response From Fleur:
Easy course for the 4th social studies credit? Semester psychology and anthropology. Both are offered at TJ during the school year. That’s how I did it. Little to no homework. Nothing time consuming or brain wracking. Just fun investigative and interesting stuff :)
How is ancient civ over the summer? Is it easy to get an A?
Response from Trelawney:
From what I’ve heard from other people, ancient civ is pretty easy in general, and I think almost everyone got an A in the class last summer.
