A family of Xolos, one of the most ancient dog breeds in the world. Xolo’s were believed to have healing powers and a role in the afterlife by guiding the deceased through the underworld.

Approximately 11,000 years ago, there was a dog.

That dog developed a tumor. A cancer.

This dog’s genetic makeup still exists to this day through the cancer that mutated from it. Transmissible to other dogs.

We can’t ever truly know why an ancient person would own or have commissioned such a detailed and lovingly crafted sculpture of a dog nursing her puppies. We don’t even know where this was found, actually. But there are several conjectures I could make about why someone would own this, and each is more adorable than the last.
