#86 (One of my favorite hidden gems out there in the music world; lyrics were nowhere to be found so I tried the best I could... I'm sure there's a couple of tiny mistakes here and there, but yes :^V) I remember when I met you when lights on the ring of a fire Well either way you touched my hand I became a simple man Everywhere the water runs from the ocean to the sky And everything that we were missing lost inside the ancient feeling Everyone will be left out no matter what they say it's our forever Baby we will find a way to keep the world where we belong It's the only one, it's the only one Everybody likes to say the good things never last But I guess they've never seen you never felt the way that you move In another time or place we have moved right past Now I know that we're never leaving and I will follow you into the sun Everyone will be left out no matter what they say it's our forever Baby we will find a way to keep the world where we belong It's the only one, it's the only one
BAMM.tv Presents: Sufis - "Ancient Lover"
Musicians, artists, fans, techies, and press filled the BAMM.tv studio to experience Sufis, an intoxicating local band. Their sound, described by a BAMM.tv member as 1930's swing meets Chuck Berry, drove a tantalizing performance. It was like something out of a mad, delectable, roaring, gypsy carnival. Since this recording, Sufis have reformed in a new configuration as the Royal Jelly Jive. Check them out at http://www.royaljellyjive.com/
Mood Schula - Ancient Lover

Ok, so my current supply for new music dried up a bit so I took a wee peak into the archive from last year. It's almost time for a summer tune again given the GLORIOUS weather; I swear this is the sunniest March in years. Anyway the tune is a remix of Tigercity: Ancient Lover. French Horn Rebellion have given it a nice light electro feel. Bluntly put, I love this tune.
A few years ago I was introduced to Tigercity at a VHS or Beta gig. Not only did they blow me away musically, but their set superseded the headliner in terms of performance--which I'm sure every concert-goer has experienced at one point or another. After their set, I had a great conversation with Joel (bass) about classic funk and soul records.
I ended up buying their paper sleeve EP Pretend Not to Love before I left. The pressing of the disc reminded me of the quality of my old band's first EP--nothing like DIY.
I particularly dig the vibe of "Let Her Go" for Bill's incredible falsetto. Have a listen and tell me that ain't legit.

TIGER CITY - Mallory
WHO?
Tiger City! Four dudes churning out 80s inspired, danceable, soft rock. Sure it's nothing new and sure it's uber hip right now, but these guys are some of the best. Combining all the smoothest moments of Alphabetical era Phoenix, with the funk of Prince and the relative chill of Neon Indian, Tiger City brings the party.
While the band has already made buzz on the blogs and even hopped the pond a few times for overseas tours, their popularity in the States is just getting started. Front man and resident beard master, Bill Gillim carries the songs with his relaxed delivery and crystal clear falsetto. Having already played with artists like M.I.A. and Neon Indian, Tiger City is certainly in the running to be the next big thing.
Tiger City's full length debut, Ancient Lover, is available via online retailers now.
