Nearly a billion years old, this tectonic plate boundary lies deep below the surface in the “continental basement” in Ohio, USA. While it’s no longer active, it once had a mountain range that rivaled that of the Himalayans. What is it?

Simchat Torah/Vezot ha’Bracha (Deu 33-34)

1 And this is the blessing with which Moshe the man of Elohim blessed the sons of Isra’el just before his death. 2 He said: “יהוה came from Sinai and dawned to them from Se’ir; he shone forth from Mount Pa’ran. And he came with some of the set-apart myriads, from his right hand went a fiery Law for them. 3 Indeed, you showed love for the people; all his set-apart ones are in your hand. For they let themselves be centered at your feet, every one receiving your words, 4 a Torah that Moshe commanded us, even an inheritance of the assembly of Ya’akov. 5 And he was sovereign over Yeshurun when the heads of the people were gathered, and the tribes of Isra’el were together. 6 “Let Re’uven live and not die, and let not his men be few.” 7 And this is the blessing for Y’hudah. And he said: “Hear, יהוה, the voice of Y’hudah; and bring him to his people. May his hands do battle for him, and may you be a help to him against his enemies!” 8 About Levi he said: “Let your Tumim and Urim belong to your kind one, and with whom you tried at Massah, with whom you contended at the waters of M’rivah. 9 He said of his father and his mother, ‘I have not seen them.’ And he did not acknowledge his brothers or know his own children, for they observed your word and guarded your covenant. 10 They shall teach your right-rulings to Ya’akov and your Torah to Isra’el. They shall put incense before you and complete burnt offerings on your altar. 11 May יהוה bless his strength, and favorably accept the work of his hands. Smite the loins of those who rise up against him, and his foes, so that they will not recover.” 12 And of Binyamin he said: “יהוה's beloved one shall dwell securely beside him, he shields him all day long, and he dwells between his shoulders.” 13 And of Yosef he said: “His land shall be blessed by יהוה with the precious things of the heaven with the dew and with the deep that lie beneath; 14 and with the sweetness brought forth by the sun and with the sweetness of the moon’s yield; 15 and with the finest gifts of the ancient mountains and the fruitfulness of the everlasting hills; 16 and with the choicest gifts of the earth and its fullness and through the favor of him who dwelt in the bush. Let the blessing come on the head of Yosef, and on the crown of the one that was separated from his brothers. 17 His splendour is like a first-born of his bull; his horns are like the horns of a wild ox. With them he will gore the peoples together to the ends of the earth. These are the ten thousands of Efrayim; and these are the thousands of M’nasheh.” 18 About Z’vulun he said: “Rejoice, Z’vulun, in your going out, and Yissakhar, in your tents. 19 They will call peoples to the mountain; there, they will bring offerings of righteousness; for they will feast of the riches of the seas, and of the treasures hidden in the sand.” 20 About Gad he said: “Blessed is he who enlarges Gad! He dwells like a lion, tearing the arm with the crown. 21 He chose the best land for himself; because there, in the lawgiver’s portion was he hidden. And he came with the heads of the people, he did what is righteous for יהוה, and his right-rulings concerning Isra’el.” 22 About Dan he said: “Dan is a lion’s cub, streaming from Bashan.” 23 And of Naftali he said: “O Naftali, satisfied with pleasure, and full with the blessing of יהוה, possess the west and the south.” 24 And of Asher he said: “Asher is most blessed of sons; let him be accepted by his brothers, and dip his foot in oil. 25 Your sandals shall be iron and bronze, and as your days, so shall your strength be. 26 “There is no one like El of Yeshurun, who rides the heavens to help you and on the clouds in his excellency. 27 The eternal Elohim is your refuge, and beneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out the enemy from before you, and shall say, ‘Destroy them!' 28 So Isra’el will live safely and alone; the fountain of Ya’akov shall be in a land of grain and new wine, also, their heavens drop dew. 29 Blessed are you, O Isra’el! Who is like you, a people saved by יהוה, the shield who helps you and is your glorious sword? Your enemies will cower before you, and you will tread upon their high places.”

The Death of Moshe

1 And Moshe went up from the plains of Mo’av to Mount N’vo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Yericho. And יהוה showed him all the land—the Gilead to Dan, 2 and all Naftali, and the land of Efrayim and M’nasheh, and all the land of Y’hudah as far as the western sea, 3 and the Negev and the plain, the Valley of Yericho, the City of Palm Trees, as far as Tzo’ar. 4 Then יהוה said to him, “This is the land I swore to Avraham, Yitz’chak and Ya’akov, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not pass over there.” 5 And Moshe the servant of יהוה died there in the land of Mo’av, as יהוה had said. 6 And he buried him in a valley, in the land of Mo’av opposite Beit-P’or, but no person knows his grave to this day. 7 Moshe was one hundred and twenty years old when he died, his eye was not dim nor his natural freshness gone. 8 And the sons of Isra’el wept for Moshe in the plains of Mo’av thirty days, and the days of weeping and mourning for Moshe came to an end. 9 And Y’hoshua the son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom, for Moshe had laid his hands on him. And the sons of Isra’el listened to him and did as יהוה had commanded Moshe. 10 And since then, no prophet has arisen in Isra’el like Moshe, whom יהוה knew face to face, 11 for all the signs and wonders which יהוה sent him to do in the land of Mitsrayim—before Pharaoh and to all his servants and in all his land, 12 and for all that strong hand and all the great terror which Moshe did before the eyes of all Isra’el.
