that time a girl who doesnt post discourse was so pissed by a show that she felt it was necessary to word vomit everywhere:
shadowhunters has got fuckin terrible am i right folks??
and this is coming from someone who watches it for the godawful-ness
the characters are completely out of wack, lets start with the obvious
Izzy- The best Forensic Pathlolgist in New York, something the show completely and utterly forgot about because it was written into her storyline not as something that would actually frame her character and influence any of her decisions, but so freeform could have a “strong female character”. Forensic!Izzy would probably know what Yin Fen is, in fact shouldnt any Shadowhunter know what Yin Fen is? I would say no, up until the point when Alec found out, because maybe it’s really rare and just something that Shadohwhunters know very little about because it’s so heavily associated with Downworlders. Hell, they could pull the Aldertree-not-knowing-what-it-really-is card. But then, Alec knew. Alec isn’t really that special in the world of Shadowhunters. Like yes, he’s the leader of the New York Institute, but only really because his parents were. He hasnt earnt that place, it would most likely always be his. Izzy on the other hand, she has been set up as the Best Forensic Pathologist in New York. The Best. She is Exceptionally Smart. (just want to point out I have no clue what a forensic pathologist does) You would have thought that someone of such high intelligence would perhaps know about this substance, surely she must have come across before when she was Studying in order to become The Best Forensic Pathologist in New York. It just makes very little sense to me that Izzy would have no clue what it is. Even then why would this highly intelligent girl accept a weird substance, of which she has no clue what it is or of what it is made from, from a guy she doesnt really trust? I know she was desperate to go see the Iron Sisters, but they also hadn’t really established her character as stubborn up until this point. The stubborn character in this series is Alec. Izzy is supposedly smart (i say supposedly as none of her decisions as of yet have been smart), Izzy would know that she would bedrest, as much as she doesnt want it. Also I destest Izzy and Raphael and I also hate how Izzy is manipulating Raphael and I really hope they just drop that whole thing in 2B. Izzy is a badass, we know that, we also know that she is kind and loving. She wants to prove to her mother that she’s capable. Also, she’s a terrible cook. I love that they are insisting that and I love that she is learning. But I just feel like, this season, Izzy hasnt been kind. Or smart. They have stripped Izzy’s character down to stereotypes. I hope they fix her. They gave her so much potential and now theyre using none of it.
Alec- I’m not liking Malec this season. And you know what, Imma blame Daddario. That boy can’t act. I’m sorry. I love him. He is a lovely human. But Alec has no life in him. And it hurts because you can see him trying. That’s kind of the problem actually. You can see that Daddario is trying so hard to be a good Alec, I know Matt loves him. But to me, there’s something too robotic. Maybe that is just Matt’s way of playing Alec and if so I may never enjoy his character. What I can say is that Alec has been consistent with how they set him up in season 1 and, writing wise, his character hasnt really deviated.
Luke-#LukeDeservesBetter. He does. He really does. This is mainly coming from this last ep. I love Isaiah Mustafa. He is such a nice guy and plays such a brilliant Luke, he’s smart, he’s loyal, he’s protective and he is wholeheartedly a family guy. Not necessarily blood-family, but those he takes in. Like Maia. Which is why I think he would NEVER LOCK MAIA IN THAT ROOM. Especially is he knew she was claustrophobic and that would be a trigger for her. Like, make him ground her. Give him a dad punishment. Make it a funny moment, where Luke and Maia bond. They could talk it out. I think they needed a reason for Maia to like breakout and hate Luke, and therefore be willing to want to kill Clary or something. So they went with this, even though it was completely out of character. I could maybe understand it if Luke looked really stressed and was visibly struggling, but Luke seems fine. We get no insight into how he’s really feeling so we have to take what’s on the surface. And what we are given in no way suggests that he would be willing to torture a girl he considers practically family. Ugh. #LukeDeservesBetter.
Dont even get me started on the plot
