The thing about being a scientist is--

I broke something a few weeks ago. It wasn’t catastrophic, and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t my fault (more likely shoddy construction), so I didn’t worry about it, but now I have to do the next step so yesterday I figured I might as well fix it. In the process I completely destroyed it. Called the manufacturer, and today they got back to me with a fix, which I implemented, and now, after about a day of worry and weeks of an annoying problem it is... Right back where it started. Not catastrophically broken, but still having the same problem.

And that’s just the way it goes. As far as I’m concerned, that’s what I expect work to be like. Something breaks, you try to fix it, you fail, you find a work-around or you break it more. Maybe it gets fixed in the end, or maybe it’s rendered irrelevant by something else. If you’re lucky, it’s rendered irrelevant because you change what you’re doing or you get something new and shiny to replace it. If you’re unlucky, it’s rendered irrelevant because something you were using it with broke even worse and you have to abandon the whole thing.

It’s exhilarating when things go right. But the rest of the time, you have to be just so detached or you’ll break, yourself.

all i want out of this and aarons pushing robert to talk is a scene where robert just breaks and spills all his feelings and #angst and aaron just listens like the gem he is
