one trope that I love is taking a character from an AU and putting them either into a different AU, or sticking them back into their OG world. I have a whole file dedicated to just me shuffling characters around. Percy from OG universe goes into one of my soulmate AUs and is SO fucking confused about why all his besties have tattoos and also why HE has tattoos that seemingly make no sense. OG Nico goes into my "mortal" AU where he's trans and in the middle of camping with a bunch of his friends and his boyfriend (who is not OG Nico's boyfriend WAHOO). OG Will drops into fucking Tartarus where Percy and Nico are trying to find Jason's misplaced soul (with a little help from Nico's big bro Zagreus hehehe). OG Jason jumps into a universe where he and his group are being tracked by Acheron, escaped river god from the Underworld, because he's kind of gone a little off the walls and has decided it's HIS job to try and heal the woe of the demigods who he watched travel through Tartarus - which ends with Jason losing an eye and a leg when he returns to OG universe in the middle of Acheron attacking him.

so anyway. i love just....taking one character and seeing how they fare in a universe that's either very similar to theirs with just a few differences, or SO TOTALLY DIFFERENT from their own. And then sticking them back home and seeing what they learned!!! so fun.

God, I am so sorry!!! that sounds hellish. I watched it with my wife and we screamed and cackled and grinned the whole time, it was such a wonderful satisfying experience. And SO GAY. People really undersold the extent of the queer text to me.

I have so much to say but I'm still sort of organizing my thoughts--mostly, though, I can't believe a movie exist in the world that ticks off SO many of my boxes.Like, dark , psychological Hitchcock vibes? check! Overt homoeroticism? check! Tennessee Williams level dramatics? check! Literal Mermaid pussy? check! Old Man Mentor/Young Man Mentee sexual tension? check! Repression and internalized homophobia? Check! Increased substance use alongside dwindling sanity? check! Daddy kink? Puppy Play? ocean metaphors? Birds? Vomit? Come drips? Tentacles? CHECK CHECK CHECK ! It was my perfect fucking movie I want to cry it was literally all I could have asked for!!! Im so happy it exists.
