best way to describe zelda’s part in eden’s gate is to liken it to the people who joined jonestown at its most fetal stage (when jones was preaching about equality etc.,) how idyllic the life he presented to people sounded; how it appealed to those who did not feel like they fit into society, or wanted something different. 

       by the time eden’s gate becomes something else entirely, by the time it unravels and festers with all of its corruption and desperation, then it’s too late for her to leave, either because of a fear of violence (against herself or those she’s come to care for) or because of internal conflict. who is there to talk to about leaving? eden’s gate becomes so immersed in paranoia, who do you trust? you think: i could never get involved with a cult, and then you do and by the time you realise -- it’s too late.
