I'm sorry, I'm a little behind on all of what's going on with why s8 was so bad. Like, an animator's wife was upset? Do you know where I could find this info? I am beyond disappointed in the season and some clarity as to why it was SO bad would help put it in perspective I guess.

Here I can’t link anything right now but I’ll give the rundown of the last couple of months

- Sometime last year: a bunch of art directors, artists, and general staff step down which is around the production time for the end of s6. Aka the wrietrs and co change for the coming seasons

- Everything is finished with the new writers, and when everyone goes to watch it in august(ish), including staff family for Studio Mir, a wife of the animato (who likes sheith and is all around a chill and sweet person) says that it’s a satisfying ending 

- Then s7 is released and the Adam debacle happens which was a mess where a mixture of people who already hated VLD had a reason to completely thrash the season, and Shiro “fans” said that Shiro, the guy who dumped his boyfriend for space rocks, would be happier if he was with Adam yada yada

- The season gets delayed from Novemebr 14 to December 14 which raises some eyebrows

- Kihyun Ryu (an animator) posts a wip in Septemeber (?) of Shiro’s wedding scene (just his face)

- Then the leaks happen and everyone is baffled because 1.) Shiro si marrying Roy Fokker’s cameo and 2.) It makes 0% sense for Shiro, the guy who loves to explore the universe, to marry a random cameo character from another series

- SDCC is in there too and we see Curtis (Shiro’s current husband) badly photoshopped into the poster 

- Finally, S8 is released, and the spouse of the Studio Mir animator is baffled and RT’s a petition asking to see the original ending of Voltron

- If you just watch the season, it seems like they cut a lot of stuff (weird dialogue and obvious plot points that were started in the season), added in other things (the bad epilogue, Ezor, etc)

So I have a migraine rn but to summarize: There was an already finished version of the last season that had a pleasant ending, then the fake hullabaloo about Adam happened so Dreamworks made the staff add an epilogue to get PR points for LGBT, and it interrupted the possibility of Allura being able to communicate with Lance the same way Shiro did with Keith.

(Also on an unrelated note: it was so skeevy that DW made Shiro and Keith no longer interact once Shiro was revealed to be gay and had Adam compared to Keith)
