today I was having thoughts and I realized how much seeking grief drives my experience of characters
why do I love Makoto? What makes me love him this much, this fiercely? *grief*, his grief, the way he carries it. please go watch the clip of makoto despairing, it will say so much more than I can right now. Makoto looks his grief in the eyes, at the loss of Sayaka, of Leon, and he says, “I will carry them with me, I will not leave them behind”. This is why I love Makoto; because this choice is so so hard and it is so damn beautiful
Why do I love Venti? He is a god painted in grief. We meet him when he is desperately trying to retrieve the friend he was forced to leave behind from the brink, but I fell in love during his story quest. Beneath the stars, cupped in the hands of a statue of a long-dead nameless hero whose deeds are still sung of to this day, he confesses to us that he wears his grief on his body
I may update this post later I do have more thoughts but UGHH GRIEF AND LOVE
