I am a white girl who grew up in the south. We were taught that Emmett Till deserved it because who knows what he mightve done if she wasn't protected? We were taught that the only thing that can protect us from black men who want to r*pe us is a strong white Christian man with a gun. We are taught to fear black men until they are hung from trees. We are taught to exclude black women from women's rights conversations that never go so far as to endorse abortion or divorce outside of abuse. We are taught that God was an Aryan, and that is a hard thing to unlearn. I am trying. The girls who are still there have no idea there's anything wrong. If I believed in their god, I would pray.
