The superior way to watch Cyberstar
@itspileofgoodthings told me I had to do this and @im-not-the-one-youre-looking-for helped me figure them out, so here are the four quadrants of my heart:
1. Faulkner. The vision of the broken world and of the endurance of love and courage in that broken world. "When the battle comes it always produces a Roland."
2. Shakespeare. (Jane Austen, too?) The deep psychological understanding of human beings, their hows and whys, the knowledge of love in all its forms, and also of how people destroy themselves. "What is he whose grief / Bears such an emphasis, whose phrase of sorrow / Conjures the wandering stars, and makes them stand / Like wonder-wounded hearers? This is I, / Hamlet the Dane. "
3. The Scarlet Pimpernel. For the comedic, merry, quixotic element of human life - the benevolent deception, the trickster figures, the happy endings, the lightness of grace, the heroes with style and flair and sass, and sincerity under it all. "Approval, sir, in my opinion, demands the attainment of perfection. And in that sense, you rather overrate the charms of your society."
4. Homer. Oral tradition, folklore, fairy tales - the mythic, fantastical vision of the world that reveals the gods behind every tree, the divinity hiding in every aspect of our lives. "Pallas Athene kindled from his helm and shield flame unwearying, like to the star of harvest time that shineth bright above all others when he hath bathed him in the stream of Ocean."
