Putting aside for the moment how desperately uninterested I am in an episode that casts Internal Affairs as the bad guys, given how flagrantly, egregiously, and illegally abusive so many American police departments are demonstrating themselves to be lately...
(Any time you want to stop being police-apologists, Elementary, I’d be down with that. And that throwaway line about how the police are a necessary institution despite their problems? That would mean a lot more if you showed any cognizance whatsoever of what those problems actually are, or why they matter.)
(But putting that aside...)
...when the fuck did Bell become so anti-Internal Affairs? In “Details,” the very first time we got any real characterization/backstory for Bell, he was being targeted by another cop for having himself blown the whistle to Internal Affairs. And as far as the “taking shots from the shadows” bullshit was concerned, he did his informing secretly! And as they pointed out last night, he did it all again last season!
Where is this idea coming from that Bell cares more about the sanctity of the brotherhood in blue than he cares about police corruption?
