A Friendly Reminder for Patch Day
With Patch. 6.4 coming in on Tuesday there are a few tips I want to tell people to hopefully help you have a smoother time.
**Log out in an instanced area: A housing area/your house/apartment/FC house/Inn Room/Rising Stones/Waking Sands/etc.
I say this as it means when you log in on patch day there is likely to be few if no other players being loaded in at the same time as you. Which, especially for console players, lets you get in and set up before you start playing content.
**Set how many players you can see as low as possible: Go to System Configurations-->Other Settings (The ... Symbol) --> Under Display Limits -->Character and Object Quantity --> Set to Minimum
This will make it Much easier to load into congested areas, see the quest npcs, see quest objectives, and let you game run a bit better as it's not trying to load in everyone currently in the same area as you. Also helps minimize those assholes on giant mounts that try to cover up the quest spots. (Please report those people as that is griefing.)
**Set up a hotkey to turn off character names or turn of character names in your character settings:
For the Hotkey go to Keybinds -->System-->Target Filters-->Set keybind. I know there are defaults for this on gamepad and keyboard, but I sadly don't know them as I assigned that function to my X key on my keyboard. Basically if you hold this hotkey it takes away all of the names of characters on the field with you.
To turn off character names go to Character Configurations -->Display Name Settings (The icon of a person with a bar over their head) -->Others tab --> Other PCs -->Display Name Settings -->Set to Never -->Companion Display Name/HP Settings and Pet Display Name Settings under Other PCs tab as well -->Set to Never
Both of these options help you be able to see npc and quest objective names without having to worry about clicking on fifty random player names trying to click on what you actually want. You can also change your target toggling settings to scroll to what you want to click, but I feel one of these ways is easier and latter option means you don't have to worry about dealing with this until you turn names back on. Turning off Companion (AKA Chocobos) and pet (summons and minions) also means you don't have to worry about those names being clicked on accident instead of your quest. (These settings are also really good for immersion shots/RP/or games of hide and seek since all of those bars are gone)
**Know where you want to go first:
MSQ: "Currying Flavor"
-Radz-At-Han (X:4.4 Y:9.8)
-NPC: Varshahn
Raid: "Eater of Souls"
-Labyrinthos (X:8.6 Y:27.5)
-NPC: Ruissenaud
Tartaru's Grand Endeavor: "Aggressive Expansion"
-Old Sharlayan (X:11.8 Y:9.8)
-NPC: Mehdjina
Fairy Glamour for Scholars Quest: "A Faerie Tale Come True"
- Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (X:4.7 Y:11.4)
-NPC: Thubyrgeim
-NOTE: Players must first complete the job quest "Forgotten but Not Gone."
Island Sanctuary: "An Ideal Marriage"
-Actually just go on your island the Curious Courier Mammet has the quest. Pretty easy to find and do.
**Check NPC vendors for furnishing first!!!
With the IS update letting you put outdoor furniture on your island a lot of people are likely going to be looking for the perfect items to decorate. Check the housing npcs in housing wards first for some basic items that will be a lot cheaper then the marketboard first.
Just enter a housing ward and find the shop that is the Housing Merchant. They sell a lot of common housing items that people buy and sell for triple or more on the MB.
Also remember you only need ONE (1) housing item for your Island Sanctuary as it uses a glamour system. So don't buy multiples of an item for IS.
**TAKE BREAKS REGULARLY!!! EAT! DRINK WATER! STAND UP AND STRETCH!
Don't hurt yourself trying to play everything in one sitting. MSQ can take hours to complete especially going in blind and thus learning the dungeons and trial as you go. Likewise the raid series if you actually care about lore can take hours as well. Schedule in food and stretch breaks, and keep water on hand while playing. No point in powering through just to be miserable from a dehydration/hunger headache or having your back and legs hurt because you stayed in one spot too long.
THIS GOES DOUBLE FOR CRAFTER GATHERERS!! USE THE TIME BETWEEN NODES POPPING UP TO STAND UP OR GET FOOD AND WATER!! MAKING IMAGINARY MONEY IN AN MMO IS NOT WORTH MAKING YOURSELF SICK!
Most of all, have fun guys. Take your gpose shots, get invested in the lore, laugh with your friends as y'all wipe to a panic mechanic in the new raids, plot your new glam from the stuff we're getting. Do you and enjoy!
See you in Eorzea soon.
