my favourite sexuality for comic book characters to be is "we made this other character canonically queer because of their relationship with them but for some reason they are still canonically straight"
like wade wilson? mostly canonically queer because of the period where he was married to cable. he was in a queer relationship, so we have to just make him canonically queer. (Yes I know it's not the only reason, I have read all his extremely camp early 00s comics, but lets be real they'd have kept insisting that was all just a joke if it wasn't for Cable and Deadpool).
cable? definitely straight. 100% straight. obviously cable is straight. his relationship with wade is only gay during the & Deadpool, in the Cable part of the book it's very straight. He stands next to a woman sometimes, that's how you can tell it's not gay.
Kitty has, finally, been allowed to come out, but for like a decade, Illyana was canon queer because she dated Kitty, but Kitty was definitely straight and would never date a woman, and no one at marvel thought there was anything weird about that.
[Image Description: a very straight character, interacting with another straight character, in a very believably straight way]
Marvel has way more of these, mostly by virtue of having more queer characters and also chris clairmont (you can never understate the impact of chris clairmont in these matters) but Tim Drake and Kon Kent spring to mind from DC.
I think you could even make a solid argument that 616 Tony and Steve are that, given Tony is out now and Steve, somehow, still isn't.
anyway you don't really get these in any other medium, because they require multiple writers who all wildly disagree with one another to all write the same characters to happen, but i love them, and as much as I want Cable and Kon to come out, I kind of hope this never stops happening in comics, it's just never not funny.
Velma by Me!
A random thought I just had.
In the rewrite that lives in my head of HBOVelma I thought about a gag where everyone swears at least once (it will depend on the character obviously. I will make that swearing meme at some point to exemplify what I mean)… except Fred
Not because he chose not to.
But because he is always either interrupted or cut out before he can or “Well F *LOUD CAR HORN*”
This only happens to him.
guess who got introduced to yet another scarecrow character and is happily tucking them into the beloved scarecrows pile
.and yes it is dr syn dont ask how it took me this long

“Wait,” Mo Xuanyu blurts out. “It will trigger—” Wei Wuxian signs. The lash swings down. Scarlet flares, a bloody ripple in the air. It shimmers, disappears—then surges upwards and away from the strike, racing off like lightning. “—a warning,” Wei Wuxian finishes. The barrier shatters in a scarlet rain, and resentment rushes out. It knocks into Jin Ling like a living thing, nearly bowling him to the ground. Biting edges tear at his skin, dig into his meridians. A hundred voices scream together—revenge don’t you want—murderer—death—death revenge—give us— A warm hand grips his elbow, steadying him, and a low hum cuts through the noise. It swells, rises, wraps around him like a cloak. When he can finally bear to open his eyes, Jin Ling finds Wei Wuxian standing before him, his body placed between them and where the ruined barrier sparks. Mo Xuanyu has drawn his flute and begins to play—less confident than Wei Wuxian’s steady hum but still stubborn, decided, once he gets started. On Wei Wuxian’s other side, Wen Ning stands braced like a shield. Between them, the needling cloud abates, drawing glass slivers from Jin Ling’s skin and easing the thunderous pressure behind his eyes. “Well,” Wei Wuxian signs as he finally turns around, “they know we’re here now.” “Wei Ying,” Hanguang-jun says, voice low and alarmed. Blood trickles down his chin, three red drops. It’s not much, not enough to be deadly, but Jin Ling’s heart still lurches as it stripes his chin. Wei Wuxian blinks once before reaching his hand up to touch his lips tentatively. A faint furrow wrinkles his brow, and then he breathes out a quiet laugh and rubs at the blood with his sleeve. “You idiot,” jiujiu says, seething. “You couldn’t just let them handle it for once? You should know how the Lan spell works by now.” Hanguang-jun tightens, expression darkening. Looking to Sizhui and Jingyi, Jin Ling finds equal confusion in their expressions as they turn to look questioningly at Hanguang-jun. Everyone seems silenced, sheepish: Mo Xuanyu ducks his head guiltily, and Wen Ning’s gaze is dark. “Ah it’s nothing,” Wei Wuxian signs hurriedly. “Just habit. Now let’s go, aren’t we going to fight?” Scowling, jiujiu clenches his fist as if he’ll call Zidian, but he only grits his teeth and turns back toward the ruptured barrier. With the spell dispersed, Jin Ling can catch a glimmer of water, silver through the leaves. “Lan Wangji, keep him behind you,” jiujiu spits over his shoulder. “He never can help himself.”
