So a thought I had;

Hear me out Alchemy kind of a branch of magic, in that magic is innate and used by those naturally a skill one is typically born with like walking ect.

One of the more subtler ways magic shows itself in a time where science has become far more prominent is through Xingese skill of being able to read/feel the worlds energy/chi - which they were later taught how to use and manipulate via what would become Alkehestry.

It's away that connects (or perhaps reconnects) people with those energies in the world that don't have a born natural connection to it, or something idk but i could see it having a connection somewhere (its just knowledge of magic itself has long been lost or changed)

Basically strongly influenced/inspired by Flight of Dragons where in Magic itself was sort of dying/fading away as man began choosing "logic"/Science over magic- but at the same time Science still needs magic or did at one time having influenced many a technological advancement.

Most magical beasts have long since vanished / almost all gone.

Either via having been hunted down, trapped, killed or slowly fading due to the weakening magic in the world.

Quick scribble- but Jazz’s closest alt-form would be ant! Of course, this is a Panda-ant, a member of the wingless wasp species and slightly parasitoid. But he isn’t, of course- that anyone knows about. He can lay quite a few eggs, and likewise sire. 

While he can’t fly, he can certainly climb anywhere- and his sting?

Well.

To some mechanisms it can be fatal.
