Millennials overwhelmingly voted democrat! And when kids were surveyed they found that they also leaned that way (despite pressure from republican parents). That alone should give us hope

people’s viewpoints and priorities change over time. what i’m reading is that as middle class people age they gain personal wealth and look for ways of securing it. then they’ll vote for the party that is more likely to align with that, especially if they lose touch with progressive values. i see older liberal people comment that they were hopeful of progressive change 30 - 40 years ago but we’re still here. some improvements, yes, and i guess we can hope things just continue to improve without swinging back too far.

Wait were you opening a bag of tea under nitrogen or just thinking you were? Not sure which is weirder :P

i was at home and standing up when i opened my tea (so i was in the same posture as if i’m opening something in the fume hood) and my hand automatically reached up as if i was in the fume hood reaching for the nitrogen line. so if you walked in the room you would have seen me with my arm hanging in the middle of the air for no reason and a nonplussed me wondering why i was doing that

i am a mixed whirlwind of emotions so i decided to flatten them out, and, it changed, and, it gave me hope

wanting to help everybody

not knowing how and feeling helpless

realising that worrying isn’t helpful or productive

but then not being able to disengage

and it’s probably good that i want to talk about it (because i suck at keeping things inside)

but then wondering whether my concern is making everything worse for everyone else (it’s not, i know, we’re better off banding together and helping each other out. give and take, listen and be listened to, help and be helped)

realising that i need to take care of myself if i want to help others

...but can’t do any work or sleep much or eat anything cause i feel sick

this adds on to the above pile + dad in hospital + friends leaving

continue snowballing runaway worrying

but

this will pass

i had a heartwarming moment when i realised everyone is really trying to help each other out

and there is so much love coursing through everyone

and we will keep going

and we will all keep going

So you were right. I honestly didn’t think we’d make it out of the round robin stage let alone the 16s. How we weren’t defeated by Sweden and Brazil I’ll never know but WOOO QUARTER FINALS.
