our characters go to hell together
I was going to make it ‘meaningful’ but now it’s just gonna be them having an awkward date
Was this technically a date? Was he dating a goddess?
No, no.
You could just hang out with people you liked, right? Wasn’t there a thing about ‘haha, men and women can’t just be friends?’.
But he did enjoy being around her, he found himself missing her..she had things to do, important things, he couldn’t be taking up her time with ‘I kind of miss you.’
If she’d been human he’d…
Andy dropped the subject with himself.
She was here now and he better make it worth her while.
“You’re here! I’m uh, I hope I’m not taking time away from something important.” Andy greeted, his heart fluttering when he saw her standing there.
“I can take a break. Even Deities need time to do something else.” She answered him, entering the house.
Mike was with James and Marlise for the night. It was almost surreal, the notion of not having at least Mike in the house. That and the fact James got married and actually had a wife now. How long had he wanted to have that bachelor’s life style and not have to be an impromptu father figure for his youngest brother?
Now that he had it, he wasn’t sure what to do with himself if he was being honest.
“I guess that’s true. I don’t really know what gods like you would exactly do in your ‘free time.’“
“So, uh, do you want something to drink? I got snacks if you’re uh, hungry. I have a cake in the fridge, turns out my brother in law is really into cooking.”
Pink’s eyes light up at the mention of cake.
“Sure! What do you have in mind for tonight?” She asked as Andy fetched the cake. It was cute looking, a nicely decorated one, from the fridge. He cuts Pink a piece for himself and one for him.
“Well, I thought that…I wanted to just…hang out.” Andy admitted. Oh good, there was that feeling of anxiety in his stomach.
“I wanted to make tonight memorable for you. Something that you probably wouldn’t see a lot of as a Goddess.”
“Oh?” Pink inquired, as she took the plate Andy offered to her.
“I was thinking, maybe I should introduce you to some human culture. Show you some of our best movies, our books..that kind of stuff.
I can’t deny you’ve probably seen some bad things from our history. But I wanted to…” He trailed off, realizing that he’d already said what he wanted to do.
Pink seemed to unbothered by this.
“What are you going to show me?” She asked, still radiating calmness.
“Oh, well, I had a few movies I thought-they’re classics so I thought it’d be a good idea to start there. If…If I had to sum up human cinematic history in one movie, I narrowed it down. I asked the internet -I…can’t admit that I’ve seen all of these myself.”
“The internet put ‘Battleship Potemkim’ was one of the ‘best movies ever made’ but, I figure you’ve seen enough death and…war…being a Goddess and all.” Andy cringed again. Yes, because that’s what she wanted to hear.
“So I tried going for something nicer. I had to dig through some of them and, well it was either Snow White or Star Wars.” Andy admitted.
He highly doubted she’d want to really watch either of them so he supposed that left it up to his own taste. While Andy had never been a Star Wars fan- he thought the films were fun and all- he couldn’t bring himself to watch Snow White.
With or without a goddess in his presence he was not going to watch Snow White.
“So, uh, Star Wars.”
Pink watched the screen curiously as the theme song played out. Andy’s mind was a mess. Between trying to focus on the cake, on the movie and trying not to obsess over his ‘not date’ with Pink, Andy fought that feeling for the most part.
“Andy? Are you alright?” The man in question jerked out of his thoughts.
“Uhm, yeah. Yeah, I’m…I’m fine.”
Pink paused the movie and took his hand. Andy’s plate was set on the coffee table.
“I’m a goddess. You can’t hide these things from me. What’s wrong?”
Oh no, this was not what he’d wanted this conversation to go.
“What are we, Pink?” The words spilled from his mouth, from his head without thinking.
“What do you mean?” She asked, scrunching up her face in confusion.
“I…” Andy could feel a rising heat in his throat, worrisome.
“I like you, Pink. And, I don’t…I don’t know where this is going. I like you as a friend, and I’m worried…I’m worried that I’m going to go too far in and…and like you more than either of us can handle.”
Her expression changed, she must have figured it out.
“I know it won’t work out between us. You’re immortal and I’m…” He trailed off and jumped somewhere else. So many jumbled thoughts, so many what if’s and worries. How could he even come close to describing his thoughts right?
“You will always have a place in my heart, Anthony. You’re a good man.”
She was looking directly at him, that smile- she even called him by his full first name too. He was feeling a little light headed, disoriented.
“It feels wrong, having these feelings.” Andy squeezed his eyes shut, trying to calm himself.
“You’re not the first.” She admitted.
“I was kind of expecting that. Do you…miss them? Love them still?” Torn between wanting to know and kicking himself for wanting to know, he didn’t say anything else.
“I still think about them from time to time, but, I’ve long accepted death. There will always be death, but there will always be an opportunity for life.”
“Where does that…put us? Where do I fit in…in all that?” Andy glanced down, not wanting to look her in the eyes.
“Where do you want to fit in?” She asked, bringing the atmosphere to a stand still. The paths of where this could go, for him, for them, she was letting him decide. It was almost too much and yet.
“I’ve liked you more than anyone else, but I don’t want to lose what we have now.”
“Things change.” She pointed out. “Everything changes. I’ve seen rivers change course, I”ve seen mountains rise and fall.”
“I, yeah, I suppose that’s…I…”
“It’s alright if you don’t know yet. It’s a big step.” Pink assured him. She never judged him during this whole endeavor, would she judge him later? What if they broke up?
“I want to make this work.”
