To wrap up this week full of chamber music, I’d like to share this recording of André Jolivet’s Chant de Linos for flute, violin, viola, cello and harp, played here by Pei-San Chiu (flute) on a chamber recital at the Jacobs School of Music (Indiana University), with Yuanyuan Wang (violin), Tze-Ying Wu (viola), Cole Tutino (cello), and Joy Yeh (harp). This piece is very new to me, but it’s been consuming my soul over the past few days. Maybe reflecting my soul? Hard to say. I know this hasn’t been the greatest week in terms of musicology coming from me, and I’ll admit it’s been a stressful one on my end. But sharing music here with you is one of the small joys I’m loathe to give up in hard times.
On that note, Musica in Extenso is experiencing some uncertainty about our future and where to go from here. Read more from our Editor-in-Chief here. If you have thoughts about what you’d like to see from us, or where you’d like to see us, please let us know! - Melinda Beasi

365 days of listening: day 3, 3/1/17
today’s piece is André Jolivet’s Sonatina for Flute and Clarinet, performed in this recording by Julia Estéves and Beatriz López from Airas Ensemble. i couldn’t decide which of the three movements to post so i just picked the first. enjoy! ☺️
What's this? A new performance of my favorite bassoon concerto? And it fucking kicks ass? Why, yes, don't mind if I do.
