Brain Uploaded Tadashi discovers a surprisingly long time after the uploading that he lost a useful bit of his humanity. He cannot tell a window apart from air unless it is either tinted or covered in stickers. This is hilarious but also annoying because the doors to the SFIT lab are french windows and he keeps walking into them because he assumes they're open since he can't see the glass.
To be fair, I’ve known human beings who aren’t that great at telling windows from air too
Like, at first Tadashi is really embarrassed by it, especially because with his new android body he’s much tougher than a regular human and so he’ll sometimes go right through the glass when he’s moving at a fast enough clip. He’s always torn afterwards too; should he stick around and clean up so that no one gets hurt from all the glass? Or should he run away and hope no one saw him?
He continues to be embarrassed by it until the day Fred comes in, strolling along with a bagel in his mouth and his headphones on, dancing along to some pop song only he can hear at the moment, and walks straight into the glass door. It’s like something from a cartoon, from the way his face gets comically smooshed against the glass to the squeaking sound he makes as he sliiiiiiiides to the ground.
Tadashi can’t help it, he bursts out laughing, even though he’s pretty sure Fred hit the door hard enough to leave a bruise on his forehead. But sure enough, Fred bounces right back up, no worse for wear other than his dropped bagel. Fred mourns it for the rest of the day.
After that, now that he’s paying more attention, Tadashi realizes that they all do it from time to time. He even catches GoGo running headfirst into the door at one point, although he quickly averts his eyes when he spots her looking around to see if anyone saw her. He’s not in the mood to get half of his wires pulled out today, thank you very much. It makes him feel a bit better, a bit more human, to know it’s not just him. And so the next time he walks into a door, he doesn’t get embarrassed like before. He just bursts out laughing, and hopes that he managed to amuse someone else as well.
