Happy STS!
What is one of your favorite words or phrases to use in writing? Or if you don't have a favorite, what do you find yourself using the most?
What trope have you not written yet, but want to?
What title do you want to use, but can't figure out a story to fit?
Hiiiii!
Thanks so much for asking!
What is one of your favorite words or phrases to use in writing? Or if you don't have a favorite, what do you find yourself using the most?
Uh, it depends on the character. Some of them have specific things they'll say. I'm sure @vixenofcourse could tell you what words I use the ost since she edits most of my stuff lol
What trope have you not written yet, but want to?
Hmm...I don't really limit myself in what I write. I just write what I want. I don't post everything though (especially if it's incomplete).
What title do you want to use, but can't figure out a story to fit?
None! Titles are the hardest part of deciding to post or share something lol. I usually come up with them last.
HP fic, draft 1
Here's a snippet:
“Tuney?” She clutches the doorframe. She hasn’t heard that voice since her parents’ funeral in 1979. She looks up at the visitor. Vivid green eyes are in pain, yet begging for Petunia’s attention. “L-Lily?” “Hi, Tuney,” her younger sister attempts to grin. Petunia recovers, all the pain and anger of the past returning. “What are you doing here?” she asks coldly, yet not loud enough for Vernon to hear. “I told you that I didn’t want to see you anymore. Please leave,” Petunia hisses as she tries to shut the door. “Petunia, wait, please!” Lily cries out, reaching for the door. Then she doubles over in pain, her dark red hair falling in her face.

I’ll tell you:
The first character I first fell in love with: The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: The character everyone else loves that I don’t: The character I love that everyone else hates: The character I used to love but don’t any longer: The character I would totally smooch: The character I’d want to be like: The character I’d slap: A pairing that I love: A pairing that I despise:
Harry potter
The first character I fell in love with: Probably Hermione
The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Harry Potter (I kind of hated him when I was little)
The character everyone else love that I don't: Dumbledore and Snape
The character I love that everyone else hates: I don't love her but I like Cho (I firmly believe that she was poorly written but she had potential)
The character I used to love but don't any longer: Probably Dumbledore (because when I was a kid I couldn't see how much he is a shitty manipulator)
The character I would totally smooch: Sirius Black ofc
The character I'd want to be like: Ginny Weasley (from books, not movies)
The character I'd slap: Snape, Dumbledore and Dolores 💀
A pairing that I love: Wolfstar is probably my favourite.
A pairing that I despise: This comes from when I was very little. I HATE Dramione because I hated it from the first moment (if I think about it right now, without me-child feelings, I don't hate them. Don't like them, but don't hate them either)
Hp au prologue violet
Okay, so the prologue was written in the past tense in the manner of the early paragraphs of "The Boy Who Lived" in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. It is basically exposition for Violet Evans' backstory. She was a foundling who was fostered and adopted by a muggle British-American couple who later got divorced.

Criminal Mind: Evolution Thoughts
@andromedalestrange: I’m answering your question this way to give myself more space to get out my thoughts:
1. I think moving to streaming helped it out. For starters, episodes are 50-ish minutes, instead of 45, and it needed those extra minutes. It just gives us more time with everything and everyone.
2. RE: Everyone: As much as I miss Simmons and Reid (fave characters), I do like the smaller sized cast and we are no longer getting "paint by the numbers" episodes (which is more evident and in your face when you are like me and binge watch 12+ seasons at one time) were everyone has their role and says their lines at this certain time, and Reid gives his usual smart quip, and everyone comments that he's a nerd/soo smart etc, etc. The characters just feel like they’re getting more time to see their growth and personal lives and inter-personal relationships. Whatever personal issues they have with their own lives or with each other, don’t get wrapped up at the end of each episode, it carries on and continues, and builds off itself.
3. I think the serialization of the this shorter season helps break up that “paint by numbers” feel and it’s something I’ve been waiting on for a while. It was always the overaching plots that came up through the seasons that I liked the most. And after a while the “unsub of the week” (coming from a “monster of the week” tv show fan) just got too predictable - again this is really evident when you binge 12+ seasons at a time. And, I get it, it’s what Criminal Minds’ baseline/point is but still.
4. This show doesn’t completely erase that Covid impacted it, but it does it in a way I think works really well and that is the basis as to Simmons’ and Reid’s characters’ absence and where the characters are at the start of the show. And it leaves the door open for them to appear later on should this series (reboot?) continue.
It’s not a huge, drastic change that the name Evolution might make you think it is, but just allowing the characters and overall production of the series to open up more. You do still have your basic “unsub of the week” as I mentioned above, but instead of it being a standalone thing, it does mesh well with the overall story arch they’re going for.
I’ve watched and enjoyed the first two episodes, but it could still fall back into it’s usual episodic feel as more episodes are released. I’ll just have to wait and see.
