The chances of both of them making it out of this unscathed is very slim. That much becomes obvious as soon as she realizes just how close the creature is. And she knows how he is, how he always seems to put all of them before himself; she knows what he’ll probably do. And she can’t let him do it. He just finally came back, she can’t risk losing him again, losing him permanently. So she acts first. All it takes is a simple shove to get him out of the creature’s path. Does that guarantee his safety? Maybe not, but it’s better than nothing.
Now to deal with the creature. She turns to face it, to try to fight it. And she tries, she tries so hard, but she’s never been much of a fighter (at least not physically). Against something like this, she hardly stands a chance.
At least Danny can get away. At least he’ll be safe.
