Just and Just As
Before I deep dived into my unhealthy obsession with these two artist, I thought this song was a love song from a man to a woman. He was trying to comfort her, and assure her that he will be trustworthy and faithful. However, after watching and reading practically every interview I could find on them, their early albums reflect more of their spirituality and struggles with faith. I now interpret this song more so of God talking to his lost sheep I guess you could say. Showing them how to walk in the light. How their heart wants to follow him into the light and into a personal relationship with him. He is the only being that is the embodiment of Justice and Love. But we have to search for him, we have to ask. And what seems painful and unfair is part of this huge tapestry that we can't comprehend. What I have a hard time understanding is the "blood on the couch" lyric. Blood on the alter? Maybe not that, but it's just an idea. But we must struggle through this life, and through this narrow road. And God wants us to choose him, but it's ultimately up to us whether we choose a life in his presence or a life devoid of his love.
