After the Maze

Draco had been quiet on the journey back from King’s Cross Station, had been quiet all through supper and gone to bed quietly without pleading to be allowed to stay up until he had told at least three dozen of the most important stories of things that had happened during the past school year. Of course, children didn’t usually die at Hogwarts, so it was perhaps only natural that he should be more subdued than usual; at any rate, his aunt and uncle had allowed him the solitude and quiet he clearly so desired...
But it was morning now, and he wanted to talk -- to his aunt, specifically. He just didn’t know exactly how to start...
“Aunt Andromeda?” Draco asked softly, more formal than he usually was with the woman who’d effectively been his mother for as long as he could remember. “Can we...I was wondering if you...” He swallowed and tried again, staring down at his trainers rather than meeting her eyes. “Have you heard that...is it true what they’re saying, what Dumbledore’s saying, about...about You-Know-Who coming back?”
