Book blurb:
A lady on a mission… Lady Harriet Parrish never dreamed of having a London season. She’s been content to live a life of comfortable obscurity in her sleepy corner of Kent, but when her dearest childhood friend, the newly crowned Earl of Windham ends their secret correspondence and embarks on a ruinous path of debauchery, Hattie braves the grime and gossip of Town to snatch him back from the brink of destruction.
A gentleman without a home… Cassian Fitzgerald has never belonged to anything or anyone. Born to an aristocratic father and a humble mother, he’s spent a lifetime straddling two different worlds. He only ever felt truly at home during the fleeting summer he spent in Kent picking wildflowers at Hattie Parrish’s side. But they’re no longer children, and he’s sworn to give her up forever rather than see her tainted by the notorious Windham wickedness that haunts his every step.
And a childhood friendship that grows into the love of a lifetime. But Cass soon finds the past has a way of creeping into the present when Hattie appears unexpectedly in London, her deep blue eyes as hypnotizing as ever. When secrets, lies and an explosive scandal threaten to shatter Hattie’s reputation, Cass will do whatever he must to protect the only lady who’s ever been home to him.
My review: 4 stars
A Summer childhood friendship that lasted for a decade of pen pal correspondence. Scandalous for an unmarried lady to write a bachelor but Kent and London aren't in the same social circle & things stay quiet. Until a friend who's not a true friend blows it all up.
Hattie has considered Cassian to be a dear friend even though they're separated by many miles. When he stops writing to her she's hurt and confused. Hattie is the kind of person who loves with her whole heart and never abandons a friend. When she senses Cassian is in trouble she's off to London to help him any way she can. It's sweet how maneuvers things & people to get to London quick. Cassian is a perfect example of a young being molded into a reflection of your father. He's been beaten down to the point that acceptance is his status quo. These two are an example of when it's meant to be it'll be.
