Real Presence of Jesus?
Martin Zavala
Hi Martin,
The Catholic Church is wrong because it says that Christ is present in the Eucharist, but that is not true, it is only a symbol. I assure you if I take a consecrated wafer and examined it under a microscope that I would not see Jesus Christ. Furthermore, the Bible says that there is one sacrifice and not many.
Greetings brother,
By your comment surely you are not Catholic. Below are my responses regarding your comments. Thanks for your e-mail.
Real Presence of Jesus Christ: Body and Blood
The “real presence of Jesus Christ” in the consecrated Bread and Wine is a fact that the Word of God shows us clearly. Notice what Jesus says in John 6:48-51, “…I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world”.
The Three Levels of Faith: Jews, Protestants, Catholics
The first group, the Jews, reacted this way: “The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, ‘How can this man give us this flesh to eat?’ So Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you…” (John 6:52-56).
The second group had a different reaction as follows: “When many of his disciples heard it, they said, ‘This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?’ … After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.” (John 6:60-66).
Note that the latter group was not Jewish but disciples of Jesus. I.e. believers who had accepted Jesus’ words before; believers who love God and recognize Jesus as the Messiah; believers who had heard before of the promises and demands of the kingdom. Believers … yes, believers but to a certain level.
Fast forward to see the third group show another type of reaction and Level of Faith:”So Jesus said to the Twelve, ‘Do you want to go away as well?’ Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God’” (John 6:67-69).
Mandate of Jesus: Do this in memory of me
"And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me" (Luke 22:19).
Updating the one sacrifice of Jesus on the cross
The Eucharist is more than just a memory or repetition, for St. Peter and for us, is a “make present” the covenant sealed with the blood of our Lord. Reference 1 Corinthians 11:23-25.
So real, it has real consequences
Reference 1 Corinthians 11:27-29.
Neither with microscope nor with telescope
If you look at a consecrated host under a microscope you will not see Jesus, but if you look through a telescope at the sky, you will not see God there either. Do not forget the fundamentals: God is not seen with physical eyes through a microscope or telescope. You will find God through the eyes of faith, as the Apostle Paul said, “We walk by faith and not by sight” (Rom. 8:24-25).
