An expression of gratitude
As a child I always felt lucky that I had a roof over my head, regardless of what I had to deal with. I was grateful.
Although I was never able to express my gratitude as a child, I was always grateful for what I had and that has stayed with me. Gratitude comes with an understanding from us, a tolerance. Of course when I look back now on and everything that I had to deal with, the picture was a lot worse than I thought at the time.
Those were never my conscious thoughts, but unconsciously that’s how I equated my life. Gratitude is something we don’t seem to have; very few seem to live their lives that way, but gratitude serves us well and is a quality that will always make us thankful, regardless of what we deal with.
It’s a readiness to show appreciation for life, for our existence and for us to become better people, regardless of our upbringing and in return show kindness back. Couple that with other qualities; and you have a recipe for a stress free life.
Gratitude is a lifestyle choice. A way of life and if given in abundance can change the quality of our lives. It requires a dedication, a continued thought; a willingness to let go of the past, even the most challenging of experiences, to live quietly in the present moment with a more positive attitude and mindset.
It doesn’t change the bad experiences, nor does it change the attitude from the people we have come to trust, or what they’ve done, but it does help us move in a more positive direction, so that we can let go of all the things that have the potential to make us ill.
Those who have wronged us will still have to take responsibility for their actions, but we must be responsible for ourselves and must learn to live our lives with gratitude.
