Painting the ocean is calming to me. The ocean has been a huge part of my life. I used to live near the beach in PR. So the nostalgia of going to the beach and having fun is something I miss. Painting these small canvases in bed is a lot of fun. I don’t feel such pressure of having a lot of materials with me. I usually use two to three brushes. In this painting I blocked out all the major shapes of color with one brush. Then I use a smaller brush for the details to come. It finds itself in a purple shaded forest containing marvelous sights. The sun has beaten brightly on the trees that cover the strange terrain. As the day goes on the heat rises in the undergrowth. Leaves that were dull in color come alive in blazes of purple and alizarin. Nothing could remain cold and still during this hour. As the night creeps forward, the heat never settles. The rose too is melting from the collected heat. It is so hot that the rose takes on a new color of golden yellow and dark purple. It’s as if the rose drew in the golden rays of the sun which transformed its splendor.
