The angel stopped for just a moment, looking over his shoulder at Sal, "Whatever you want to." Markus wasn't sure what Sal would want after he knew the things he'd done. "It's your choice, I just have to make sure you make it to daybreak tomorrow." Rooting around in his hip pouch, he pulled out teal feathers and cast them away from them, they were bloody and looked like they'd freshly been ripped free. "They need to think something happened to me."

Salem had no idea what his choice would be after today. He hurt. He still loved him. They had to seriously talk once this is over, that was the only thing he was sure about.
He watched the feathers float to the ground, memories of seeing Markus’ wings for the first time made him smile weakly. “Who are they? What happened for them to come after us?” Salem’s legs were tired from the running and hiking, in fact his entire body felt sore. But the brunet was pulling through for Markus, it was all he could do.
