So Bruce, what were your plans for the evening? I’ve been cooped up in my room for too long roomy.
Not so Invincible || Tony & Bruce
It was a bit past midnight when Tony entered the workshop, completely convinced that he wouldn’t be able to blink an eye, so why bother staying in his room staring unproductively at the ceiling as he lay in bed? Pepper would be boarding on her flight to wherever the following afternoon, so he knew that whatever thoughts entertained by his vacant mind wouldn’t be positive. He wanted to keep himself busy working on his suit, and of course, a drink would come in handy. At first Tony had told himself it would be just coffee, but it wasn’t long before he switched to liquor.
Then again, he had been wrong to assume that he would be awake all night. Around four a.m., the built up fatigue from the past few days caught up with him, and he fell asleep with his head resting on his folded arms, which were in turn supported by his working table. It was a dreamless slumber, very peaceful, even. He was just so tired. And he actually felt at ease down on the workshop – this one didn’t compare to the one he had at Stark mansion, but he had settled on it just fine, and at least there was no chance of running into Pepper there.
Tony didn’t know what time it was when the sound of Bruce walking in suddenly roused him, causing him to accidentally knock over the glass of scotch with his elbow. Luckily, the glass had been empty. “Good morning, sunshine. Or afternoon, I don’t know” Tony tried to sound energetic when he greeted Bruce, like he hadn’t been asleep moments before. “I’m just working on some stuff, want to help me out?” He had to strain himself to sound casual as he scanned Bruce’s expression for any blatant signs of sadness that would indicate that he had already come back from saying his goodbye to Pepper. Tony knew he could just glance at his wristwatch, check the time and see if it matched up, but truthfully, he was afraid to know for sure.
(PROM) I See Everything || Tony & Bruce
Three quarters into the night, Tony had observed Pepper and Flash’s interaction so obsessively that he would have been able to detail every move they made throughout the night. Aside from the moment in the car with Gwen and the few dances he stole with other girls, stalking Pepper from a more or less safe distance had been his primary activity. Fortunately, by that point in the night, the tequila-enhanced fruit punch had already had an effect on him, so he had been taking everything relatively well… which basically meant that he wasn’t openly moping about it anymore. The alcohol had triggered a strange sense of competiveness towards Flash, not over Pepper, but over who had been having the best time. He refused to look as devastated as he felt.
Therefore, he had been wandering flamboyantly around the ballroom (most of the time without his date – poor Gwen, but Tony definitely wasn’t good prom date material), hitting on every long-legged girl who so much as looked at him, and drunkenly chatting up with every guy that wasn’t too annoying, always holding on his hand a glass of spiked punch. It was during one of those rounds that Tony caught a glimpse of Bruce and Maria on the dance floor. His eyebrows rose, and he made a mental note to ask Bruce what that had been about, but between drinking and chasing skirts and pretending not to be stalking Pepper still, his curiosity got lost. At least until he spotted Bruce headed towards the refreshments table. He was on his own, so that seemed a good time to catch up. “No escaping from my all-seeing eyes. Saw you and Maria hitting the floor earlier,” Tony commented, approaching Bruce from behind. “How did that go? Step on her feet much?” There was a playful edge to his tone and his words slurred together a bit, but still, there was an underlying concern in the question. He knew Maria was a bit of a touchy subject.
I just heard Banner needs a date as well. Girls with loose morals, form a line to the right.
If Bruce protests, don't listen to him. He doesn't know what he's saying.
