Thoughtful thoughts from my Mom this morning. #ontimeword #lifeisshort #loveisrare #angerisbad #faceyourfears #memoriestolastalifetime #cherisheverymoment
Can I get a witness?
Deuteronomy 19:15-20 - “One witness shall not rise against a man concerning any iniquity or any sin that he commits; by the mouth of two or three witnesses the matter shall be established. 16 If a false witness rises against any man to testify against him of wrongdoing, 17 then both men in the controversy shall stand before the Lord, before the priests and the judges who serve in those days. 18 And the judges shall make careful inquiry, and indeed, if the witness is a false witness, who has testified falsely against his brother, 19 then you shall do to him as he thought to have done to his brother; so you shall put away the evil from among you. 20 And those who remain shall hear and fear, and hereafter they shall not again commit such evil among you.
What a great lesson we learn here in the old testament. In the culture at that time unless you had at least another witness you could not bring charges against someone. What that means is that if I wanted to bring false allegations, for whatever reason (often because my feelings are hurt), I would have to convince others to stand as witness to those false allegations. The problem? If the judges discovered that I was bringing false charges, then I would be punished with whatever punishment I was seeking. Crazy right? That I could be so mad that I would have others risk their life to find vengeance. Don't we? We so often get so upset over things that don't really matter, we get so personally offended that we convince others to stand with us in accusations that may not be true. Instead of justifying my anger I should allow others to lead me towards the forgiveness of God. Can I get a witness to my anger? Or to my repentance?
