Today is the feast day of Our Lady of Walsingham. I took this photo of a shrine devoted to her in St. Magnus-the-Martyr in London — kneeling here, I had an immensely moving personal experience with Our Lady. The prayer to the right of the statue reads:

O Mary, recall the solemn moment when Jesus, thy Divine Son, dying on the Cross, confided us to thy maternal care. Thou art our Mother, we desire ever to be thy devout children. Let us, therefore, feel the effects of thy powerful intercession with Jesus Christ.

Make thy name again glorious. Pray O Holy Mother of God, for the conversion of England, restoration of the sick, consolation for the afflicted, repentance of sinners, peace to the departed.

Mary, Mother of God, Our Lady of Walsingham, intercede for us.

Some of my favourite stained glass windows, featuring the fun little shapes at the top of the arches, two featuring St George and the dragon (one of which is mostly the dragon), and two featuring Christ, one of which also has Mary Magdalene in the foreground, and the other a lot of people who I'm sure are very significant but who I have never researched.

Salisbury Cathedral by Roy Llowarch Via Flickr: Travelled up to Salisbury today to revisit the wonderful cathedral. It has the tallest spire in the United Kingdom. I climbed to the top of the spire last time I visited back in 2014. The tower is not open at the moment due to Covid-19 rules on social distancing. Salisbury cathedral is one of our newer Norman cathedrals as it was not built until 1220AD. Sadly the weather today as you can see was cloudy and overcast. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salisbury_Cathedral

this allhallowtide is my first as a christian. my church transferred both feasts to sunday. at all saints, i had a profound emotional response to the gospel reading (actually had to sit the sermon out). at all souls, i found our intercession for the dead moving. i think the juxtaposition of fauré's beautiful in paradisum set against a bleak, dark edinburgh evening will remain in my mind for a long time.

on a less spiritual note, it does feel odd me celebrating halloween after all saints!
