Valentine's Prompts Day 1
Failed Mission
TW: mentions of injury, anger.
Masterlist
It was your first mission out of school. It should've been easy, a grade 2 near the beaches of Kochi, Japan. A curse of reflections. When you finally find the curse it immediately shifts to look like a distorted version of you. Eyes too wide and far apart making your head alien shaped, patchy hair, shorter, rounder. Every single insecurity manifested in the curse.
You take a deep breath and charge. It dodges your fist, landing its own in your gut. You spin through the air, hitting the wall behind you. A drop of blood runs down your chin as you stand and go at it again. This time it lands, only for the curse to quickly land another, weaker hit. You manage to land a few more hits until it seems to have adapted to you. It doesn't take long for it to have worn you down, blocking or dodging every hit you throw at it. It manages to throw you to the ground, slicing your leg on a broken alcohol bottle.
You run. This may not be a special grade mission, but for now, it's too advanced for you. You somehow make it back to Jujutsu High, letting Ieiri fix up any injuries you have. Besides Shoko, Satoru was the first one to visit you after your failed mission. He paces at your side, anger bubbling off him. His eyes were icy, face pinched tight. You'd never seen him like this before.
“Satoru, I'm really fine, I just-” You mumble, trying to reach out to him.
He stops dead in his tracks, eyes finally meeting yours, “You're hurt because of those idiots. They sent you out to your death. You....”
Despite his voice, he looked terrified. Tears brimmed his eyes before he quickly looked away from you. His gaze pierces your body, as if analyzing where you’d been hurt. You can see the muscles in his jaw flex as if he’s found something. He grabs your leg, pulling the sheet from it to find a large gash. Fear explodes on his face.
“I promise I’m fine. I should have known better. I was just too cocky.” You attempt to smother his fears.
Satoru finally meets your gaze again, “They’re never going to hurt you again.”
“No,” you grab his arm as he’s about to leave, “we both knew this is how sorcery is, you can’t go causing problems when I signed up for it.”
“But you could’ve died.” His face falls, his forehead pressed against yours.
“But I didn't. Besides, you could die too.”
He shakes his head, you could tell he wasn't going to argue, but he didn't agree with either. He was right of course, the curse was definitely higher than grade 2, and this was at least the second time the higher ups had messed up; however, it wasn't worth disbanding the entirety of sorcerer society. Not for you.
