☕ and Byeler (be it how the show handles it, how the fanbase acts about it, fanfic cliches about it, whatever)
oooo so much in this one. i’m ready.
right off the bat, i’m assuming the show is going to make a love triangle. because i know how annoying straight men write television. BUT i’m hoping that the love triangle acts as a way to incite conversation in the topic rather than just having will be on the outside. like, i hope will being interested in mike while he’s obviously into el will cause them to have a conversation. Like a “whoa, wait, when did this happen? i didn’t know this about you. i’m sorry if i made you feel like you couldn’t tell me” type of talk that then kind of leads to “… like, you know, when did you know?”.
i wrote a few posts about how i’d ideally see the show do byeler, but for tea purposes, i’m just hoping they have those boys sit the fuck down and talk through everything and let each other be safe in their own space. 1985 is an important year for the gay community, especially during the hiv/aids fight, and to think those boys aren’t scared or nervous or hearing absolute bullshit from the outside world is WRONG and i’m going to fight them if they don’t do it right.
if you can have every goddamn product label in that show be time period accurate, you can have two gay (or one gay and one bi) characters discussing the reality of being gay in the time period. thank you.
fanbase, in terms of tumblr, i feel like i follow really great people so my exposure will be positive. but outside that? i feel like some people could get really weird about it or really gross. there’s always a chance of people being grossly homophobic around a child character (and the actor) so i’m just hoping people don’t fucking say anything. OR start over sexualizing will/mike because they only relate gay men to innocuous sexual stereotypes. if you are reading this, and after st3 you feel that urge, think of me, your father Kazimir, literally grabbing you by the shoulders and screaming in your face to NOT FUCKING DO THAT. thank you xo
and for fanfic cliches? i think they are great. i love reading the same plot written in 25 different ways by 25 different writers. i’m really excited to have the new season and have all these different things flooding my dash and all the tags. it’s going to be great! although, while we are on the topic of gross things, and while i’m still being your father, if i see one fucking story making light of hiv/aids or using it for dramatic effect i’m going to roll over in my grave. just fyi
