Prompt: I Waited For You

(Thirtieth story for Angstember 2024 by @ivystoryweaver)

[Personal Log]

There is a new servant. I was instructed to help him settle in.

I believe that he can be a very good worker once he understands how to follow the rules. But ... maybe he doesn't want to. He is human. He belongs to a species that I've heard is very self-confident and stubborn. I've never seen a human in this estate before.

Maybe he's the one I've been waiting for – the one we've all been waiting for – for so long. Maybe he is the one who will finally free us all from this place.

I have high hopes for 350, maybe because he's so much like 360. I don't know. I don't really understand my feelings.

But one thing is certain. I won't make the same mistake as I did back then. I will play my part and wait.

Wait and hope. That's all I can do.

Maybe fear and sadness will soon finally be conquered by courage and strength. Just maybe ...

Prompt: Missing You

I hate it. I hate this place so much. I can't remember for how long I served under my masters. I can't remember how often I have been punished. It's been so long since I saw my loved ones.

I miss my home. I miss my mum and dad. I miss my friends. I wonder what they are thinking and doing. Are they still searching for me? Or ... do they think I'm dead? Have they given up hope? If only there was a way for me to reach them.

Every night I close my eyes and try to imagine their familiar faces, but ... it gets so much harder with every day that passes. I start to forget. My memories start to blur. And ... it scares the hell out of me.

I miss 360, too. He was the only one I ever loved in this place. My only friend. And ... even more than that. He was everything to me ... and I killed him. It is my fault that he's dead.

I will never forgive myself for my mistake. I will never forgive myself for what I did.

I can just try and move on with this horrible life, hoping for someone to come save me and all the other slaves some day.

Prompt: Wait, I Didn't Mean To

This is it. I know I'm gonna die soon enough. Today I made the most awful mistake in ... in ... in my whole damn life!

I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!

If only I had been more careful! If only I hadn't given in to my feelings!

We were taking a walk outside a-and suddenly ... I kissed him. I kissed 360. A-a-and they killed him! The master saw us. He saw what we did – what I did!

I didn't mean for it to happen! I didn't mean for 360 to get killed because of my stupid behavior!

The master killed him right on spot, said that 360 should have been smarter than to break the rules! But it wasn't his fault! It was mine!

I ... the master sent me away and told me to go into my room. I know that he will kill me too. I know that I will be punished for what happened and –

No. No, no, no. I hear steps. He's coming! He's gonna kill me.

I'm so sorry. I'm sorry, mum and dad. I'm sorry for what I did. And I'm sorry that I won't be able to come back home.

I will –

...

...

...

I ... I can't believe it. I'm still here. I'm still alive.

The m-m-master thinks that it was 360 who kissed me. He apologized to me. He said that none of this should have happened.

I know. I know that I should have told him the truth, but ... but I was too scared of what he would do to me.

This is the only way I can survive. By hiding the truth, I can protect myself from the master's wrath.

I feel guilty. I feel horrible. But ... but I want to live. I want to have the chance to get back home somehow.

I can only hope that this won't be a mistake.

Prompt: Forbidden Love

I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I didn't make another record earlier.

It's been a few weeks since the man who gave me this recording device took me with him.

He has taken me to his estate, where he lives with his wife. I am forced to address them both as my masters. They call me 10, named after the price they paid for me. 10,000 credits. I ... am now one of their slaves.

There are more than me. Every day I learn from the others how to behave. We must not reveal our true names to anyone. As long as I carry out the tasks assigned to me and am obedient, I'm fine. I have my own room. I get food and drink and have a bed.

But ... I'm still trapped. Trapped in a gilded cage.

Some days I lose all hope and think I have to stay here forever, but then I talk to 360 – the most beautiful guy I ever met – and ... he helps me to banish the dark thoughts. He talks about his dreams and his plans to return home to his planet one day. And I want to think as positively as he does.

Yes ... I have feelings for him. I'm in love with him. But slaves are forbidden to have such relationships with each other. We are not allowed to love each other. We ... should not let love distract us from our tasks.

And yet ... I want nothing more than to confess my true feelings to 360. I want to tell him who I am and what I hope for. Who knows ... Maybe one day I'll find the courage to do so.

Because 360 is the only person who  keeps my life bearable.

Prompt: I Am Scared

I hope this recording device works properly. I ... have been held captive b-by a gang of pirates for more than two weeks now. They have taken all our possessions from me and the others.

Under the circumstances, I suppose I am fine. I am unharmed. I ... am given protein pills and water.

Yesterday someone came into my cell who is not one of the pirates. I don't know what species this creature belongs to, but I suspect it's a male one. He ... he looked at me like I am some ... some sort of animal. I don't know who he is or what he has to do with the pirates, but he asked me if I had a wish.

I ... I said that I want to go back home. I told him that I want to see my family. My mother and father.

But all I got in the end was this device. My only material wish. Something I can use to document my story.

I don't know when the man will come back. I don't know what he wants from me.

But ... I am scared. I am afraid of what will be done to me. I just hope and pray that this will not be my last recording.

Prompt: Wrong Timing

I don't know what's happening. I'm making this record in case I'm gonna die aboard this ship. I don't know if help is on the way. Hell, I have no idea if anyone will even get to hear this!

I am traveling aboard the small luxus cruise Sefiloth – a price I won at an interplanetary artist contest – and we were suddenly attacked by unknown starships.

Everyone was told to lock themselves in their quarters and wait for news from the captain.

I can hear voices coming from the floors. There ... there are screams. I don't know what's going on, but I'm scared.

I... I think that whoever is attacking the cruise will kill us. Please, if anyone finds this communicator, give it to my parents Aftik and Maliho Worthu.

Mum, Dad, I love you. I love you so so much. And I'm so sorry that I left without telling you. I knew you would have tried to stop me, afraid that something might happen to your little girl. I just wanted to explore space! I wanted to see the universe. But I guess ... I was at the right place at the wrong time.

I hope that I will be found. I hope that I will see you again. But if I don't then please know that –

The sound of static fills the air. The record is dead.

Prompt: Do You Still Love Me?

All eyes were fixed on her as Queen Aniria slowly explained what exactly had happened.

She told them about the ghost of the first queen that had possessed her. About the artifact and the curse.

She told them about the cruel plans the ghost had had. To take revenge. To destroy a civilization. To try and take back what once had belonged to them.

She told them of her own plans to help the planet by joining the Federation. People who could help and protect them.

And all the while, there was one big question that burned on her soul and seemed to tear her apart from the inside.

Could her people still love her? Could her people love a queen who relied not on her own strength, but on others? The first queen had always taught her that they couldn't rely on others, that they couldn't trust them, that they only had themselves. And a part of Aniria couldn't help but think that that was exactly what her people believed in too. They had always tried to live and survive on their own, accepting only the least bit of help from the fleet. Maybe they didn't want more help. Maybe they still wanted to fight for themselves.

And only time could tell if they still wanted Aniria to be their queen.
