Angular Geometry’s mesmerizing loops have been a GIF art staple for nearly half a decade.
Angular Geometry (@angulargeometry) is so great!Â
After we told him Tumblr's data confirms he's the longest-running everyday GIF artist, he said, "I have no idea how to word what I am feeling to be honest. I am really moved.
Awww. And as if his GIFs themselves weren’t inspiring enough...
His advice to artists on their own everyday creative journey is, "Don't worry so much. So much greatness is ruined by anxiety. Some days will turn out like garbage, some days you will be magically inspired and you will make something you are extremely happy with. The great thing is that the days just keep coming."
It’s been a beautiful four years, Tyler. Here’s to four more.Â

We haven't had much time to talk about it because there has been so much work involved in getting the show ready, but angulargeometry has a month long GIF exhibition of his own opening up at the Utah Museum Of Contemporary Art (UMOCA) this Friday, Nov 14th, 2014, from 7-9PM, and he will be there in person for the opening night! Additional details and the press release for the event can be found here, and information on parking and directions can be found on the UMOCA website.
If you live anywhere near the Greater Salt Lake Area, it would mean the world to us for you to come out to the show and say hello - Tyler is driving all the way up from L.A. to be here for this opening night, and if he can go the distance to meet you in person, you can certainly meet him 1/20th of the way. ;)
Do you guys remember when I wouldn't stop talking about how great I thought it was when my show opened? This one is going to be so much more awesome because TUMBLR GIF COMMUNITY GET TOGETHER! We're going to have angulargeometry, obviologist, and me(admiralpotato), all in the same place at the same time! Seriously, if you're a lover of amazing GIFs, you're going to be there at 7PM sharp. The opening night event will run until 9PM.
But you know the best part? The after-party is gonna be WILD! We're gonna bust open some ________ and ______ and we're gonna _________ ALL NIGHT LONG! For reals though, we're probably going to eat some dinner and retire for the evening for some video games and GIF making. Unless some people show up and want to make the night even more memorable, if you know what I'm getting at. ;) You know, like adding a projector to the mix, bringing a few more workstations, and adding a few more nodes to the local render farm - Then we'll crunch some SERIOUS pixels! You know what I'm talkin' 'bout!
Featured Curator of the Week: Philip Intile [pi-slices]
Tyler Haywood aka angulargeometry currently lives and works in Los Angeles. He has been obsessed with creating art since he took a clay sculpture class when he was four years old. Tyler likes to make as much work as he can instead of filtering ideas and cornering himself in. Tyler began a weekly blog where he posted mainly still images and poster designs, but after being inspired by Mike Winkelmann aka Beeple's daily work, he began creating and posting his work daily. He has been creating daily GIFs more more than 430 days and shows no signs of slowing down.Â
Variations in Post-Processing on a Simple Wireframe
So earlier tonight, I saw a GIF named "I See You" by Angular Geometry, and it inspired me a bit. I thought "Oh, hey, I like that post-processing! I'll bet I could pull off something like that in a really simple setup I'm imagining right now!" - but the more I got in and played with it, the less it looked like what had inspired it, and more like... well, more like 5 other completely different things - but each one was cool, so I thought I would post them all! :D
If you would like to play with applying some post-processing to this animation, the last image in this set is exactly what I had to start with, so you're welcome to pull that down and play with it yourself. I'd love to see what anyone else out there would do with this!
