So I asked a few days ago for suggestions for a podcast app...but unfortunately reddit found me one first and Im here to be insufferable about it because I LOVE this app!
This is Podcast Republic.
Pretty straight forward right? Along the top are icons for your followed podcasts, radio stations, rss feeds, and then search.
Search bar, a bunch of popular and recommended stuff, then a bunch of categories!
Okay, you ask, why are you so obsessed w this app? Those are pretty standard features.
Yeah, sure...but is THIS?
These are my playlists. Theres a bunch of them cuz some podcasts like The Adventure Zone have multiple seasons, and some like Last Podcast on the Left cover a variety of topics. So it if I want to listen to, say, specifically an alien/ufo episode from LPOTL I just click on my aliens playlist...
"...okay okay, I get it, youre autistic and spent 4 hours organizing over 1000 episodes into 15 different categories. I can make a playlist for podcasts on spotify too!"
Well, yes, you can! But as anyone who has made a podcast playlist on spotify knows there is no filtering within that playlist because its treated as a music playlist.
Podcast Republic knows youre listening to a podcast, so you get the same filtering options as the podcast itself. I like to filter by playback progress because it will drop everything youve listened to completely to the bottom of the list so you arent scrolling through completed episodes.
Within the settings for your playlists you can choose to keep or remove played episodes. I keep this on for my 'unplayed' playlist so I can add new episodes to, but my organizational playlists I keep it off. If you finish a playlist, you can easily mark the entire playlist as unplayed (or all played).
So if I want to, say, relisten to TAZ Amnesty 4 times in a row, I can click that single playlist, the app will move through those episodes only, then at the end I can click like 3 buttons and make the entire playlist unplayed and start all over again. If i want. If im crazy. (I do this routinely in the fall lol)
Theres a section to leave notes for yourself on individual episodes, you can create chapters which basically gives you a list of pinned times within the episode, you can add personal tags to your shows.
I havent yet explored this option, but you can also upload files from your phone like audiobooks or music and play it from this app.
Unlike spotify, the skip forward/backward time is extremely customizable, like you just type in the number of seconds to skip either direction.
I could probably find a hundred more things to brag on this app for if I didnt have a cat trying to eat plastic in the other room, so Ill leave it there!
Anyway, get off spotify, even if u dont use this app specifically. I'm sure the playlist feature isnt a selling point for everyone, but if youve ever been scrolling through hundreds of episodes of a long running show and thought "ugh, i just wanna listen to something about Topic XYZ" please consider this a game changer.
