My entry for a DTIYS hosted by PuffyGator! I wanted to do something relaxing traditionally and happened to see this challenge and wanted to give it a go. The original drawing had such a fun and playful energy and painting this was so nice.

This is Taiga the great gray owl, permanent resident at the Teton Raptor Center. Great Grays are one of the tallest owls, measuring in at around 2.5 feet, but they’re mostly feathers. TRC measures snowpack and hunting conditions for owls in the winter by dropping water bottles into the snow- the water bottle has a similar impact power as a Great Gray hunting for voles under the snow.
Under the stars 🌌 My most recent piece inspired by my home away from home, Hurricane Ridge. If anyone has ever ventured there in the evening, it's as magical at night as it is during the day. Plus one can make many deer friends up there!

Old Gods: Day 6 - Horse
Horse was the most valuable animal to Finnish people. The Finnish horses are sturdy and very versatile which made them extremely useful. A man's horse was said to be the measure of his value. Originally people believed that the horse came from Hiisi, home to demon or trickster-like entities. There is one well-known horse in Finnish mythology, the Hiisi horse (also "Devil's horse) which was an artificial horse made of iron and flames. Despite the demonic origin the horse was only believed to have originated from Hiisi because people respected this powerful animal so much. Another thing that speaks of the importance of the horse are all the stories where a hero is give a quest. This quest oftentimes involves horses somehow. The hero may need to track, capture or harness a horse (which may also be the Hiisi horse) in order to win the favor of a maiden or the quest-giver.
