BEST ENTRANCE EVER. Seeing the Mountain Gorillas 🦍 in Rwanda was a highlight of my life. While admiring them eating, nursing, playing, swinging, I could hear a lot of people saying "oh my gosh they're acting just like we do." I know they mean this in the most innocent way, but unintentionally it has a ring of chauvinism and condescension to it. I prefer to say that "we resemble one another so much" or even "we're so much like them. They were after all...here first. When we see animals acting in certain ways that look familiar to us, we're so excited and tend to say they "look just like us" or "they act just like we do," which seems innocent enough but unintentionally has a ring of chauvinism and condescension to it.
