Accomplishments
The animal rights movement has made lots of progress towards their goals, and have made significant changes. In California companies will have to comply too strict-hens-rights rules as every cage for these hens must be big enough for them to stand up, lie down and spread their wings without touching the sides of the cage (Leblanc, 2013). This was voted in by the people of California and has brought the state one step closer to accomplishing animal rights and freedom. Another example would be the end of the 300 year old Gadhimai Festival that involved the mass slaughter of animals. It was cancelled permanently by the organizers of the event after they realized that the animals were just like us and could feel the same pain (Leblanc, 2013). Another example would be the 9000 farm animals that were once rescued in a raid from an illegal slaughter house in Florida. They once killed 300 animals per day and were finally found out after a secret investigation. Many things like this have been coming up all over the world and each brings the cause one step closer to its goals. The FBI has officially made animal cruelty a top tier felony and the world’s largest manufacturer of clothing has since banned the use of Angora wool products (Leblanc, 2013). One of the most recent success stories has been the changes made in one of the biggest tourist attractions in Canada, Marine land. They have recently cancelled any further breeding of orcas and have cancelled all live shows that used the animals for entertainment purposes. They claimed that they heard our voices and are admiring or wishes.
This is a huge step in the right direction and the impacts of this will be massive on the marine life situation. Things like these are exactly what this movement has set out to accomplish, by overcoming even a small fight against the mistreatment of animals it contributes to the greater cause. I think in the future we will have an equal world, one where animals and humans can live in peace and sacrifice for each other. It will definitely take more time to try and convince people of such great changes however as each new generation is being created and new minds are being shaped I think that this future is a possibility. Animals will hopefully be seen as companions and not living things we can exploit for our own selfish needs.
